You want to talk about misguided? I don't see how anyone can assert your untenable position with a straight face. The concept is absurd and has obviously led to serious error already and continues to sprout new bizarre and dangerous communities as extreme as the cults of the Branch Davidians, Jim Jones and Heavens Gate. If you can site a more valid authority than the Catholic Church that isn't also ultimately "Man Made" for your position be my guest but so far there are none as convincing to me.
Bump for later
LOL. Great comments.
Christ spoke in Aramaic, not Greek.
What is even sillier is to claim that YOUR Church is the body of Christ...That would be like Kim Jong-un claiming N. Korea is the seat of Democracy...
Your Catholic religion and the scriptures of God are diametrically opposed...
That's like mixing gasoline with water while claiming that this mixture is the God ordained fuel to run in your cars...
What your religion says and what God says are two completely opposite things...
I don’t know. They were last offered in 2000 for the millenium celebration, but I wasn’t in the market so I didn’t price them....
so a guy dies, goes to heaven and St. Peter meets him at the gate to show him the sights.
St. Peter brings the man to a palace, where they walk down a long hall. They can hear laughter and music coming from the tremendous hall, and are greeted by all when they enter. ‘Wow, exclaimed the man, who are these people?’ St. Peter says ‘these are the Jewish people, but there’s more we need to see’.
They proceed down another hall and can hear singing and laughter from yet another hall. St. Peter enters the room to cheers and tells the man ‘these are the Protestants. Lets move along and see the rest’.
They proceed down a hall far from the other rooms and hear nothing, as the door at the end of the hall is closed. As the man goes speak, St. Peter puts his finger to his lips and says ‘shhh, don’t make any noise. These are the Catholics. They think they are the only ones here.’
12 years of Catholic school. Once I asked the question about what happened to the people who ate meat on Friday and went to hell, then the church changed the rules, I knew the rules were a pile of crap to keep the peasants in line. God doesn’t take attendance. He sees you naked on the potty. Either your soul is good or it isn’t. Some of the biggest hypocrites I know are ‘good churchgoing people’.
God forgives ALL sins, not just the little ones.
Then you are following heresy. Christ atoned for my sins on the cross. There is no more suffering after I leave this mortal life. You believe Christ wasn’t good enough and you have to suffer for the same sins He already washed away. Which of us is the fool?
It is probably true that His ‘street’ language was more likely Aramaic than Greek.
In the Synagogue when He was reading or speaking from the Bible (Tanakh) it would have been in Hebrew.
Because my salvation comes through Christ, and I can trust in Him completely. Salvation does not come through a church and the Church is comprised of those already saved. Your salvation was won on the cross, all you have to do is accept it. Period. Nothing else. Grace is the free gift of God lest any should boast.
Iscool, you’re only going to embarrass yourself again, but by all means feel free to do so.
All those Scriptures I listed—you know, the ones you have avoided mentioning in your responses to me-—are consistent and clear. God—Jesus-—is the only Rock.
Have a good Sunday, and God bless.
Alexander Solzhenitsyn became a Christian after his ordeal. He said something to the effect that when you're being tormented for the truth, and you choose the truth instead of the lie, the truth draws closer. The truth is palpable. It's real.
Solzhenitsyn believed in the truth. And he suffered for the truth before he was officially a Christian. Now, I submit that one who believes in the truth like Solzhenitsyn did is already a Christian but doesn't know it. He simply didn't know that Jesus Christ is the Truth with a capital "T". Solzhenitsyn believed in the Truth so he believed in Christ, he just didn't know that the Truth that he suffered for was a divine person named Jesus.
And he was willing to suffer for the truth, so that means he was willing to suffer for Christ, and of course Christ drew nigh unto him.
Solzhenitsyn was later fully received into Eastern Orthodoxy.
There is no salvation outside the Church. Fine. I can buy that. But the trick is to understand that God's grace makes many good people members of the Church who have no idea that they're already inside.
I can't believe that Ann Barnhardt would deny that Alexander Solzhenitsyn was in the Catholic Church even if he was Orthodox.
Indeed, if, as she says, that (1) the 5th century Plains Indian of good will who never heard of the Catholic Church was saved ultimately, and (2) that there is no salvation outside the Church, doesn't it follow that the 5th century Plains Indian of good will must have been a member of the mystical Church, even though he didn't know it?
Ann is all about logic. That would certainly seem to follow.
Also, Christ is the Way - He is the Natural Law. So if the 5th century Plains Indian is judged by the Natural Law, as Ann Barnhardt says, then surely Christ judged him by the same standard he judges baptized Catholics and everybody else for that matter - that is, Himself.
We must ponder with all humility Christ's assertion that he is the Way, the Truth and the Life. He is the Logos. He is the mind and the reason of the universe, and no doubt of much more. We certainly can't put his grace in a box, or think that we tiny creatures can presume to know how he will judge all men in reference to Himself.
Jesus knew he wouldn’t be here forever. So aren’t you forgetting some quotes before the Ascension where Jesus imparts power and authority to Peter and the Apostles?

At least I’m not saying what I believe is the only “truth”. I see all men as flawed. Yes, even the leaders of Christian churches. But they are not responsible for my acceptance of Christ. I am. It is between me and Him.
I don’t see how anyone can assert your untenable position with a straight face.
Open question, since no originals remain.
In Sacred Scripture, Peter is always given preeminence when reference is made to the trio of Peter, James and John (eg., Mt. 17:1 - "AND after six days Jesus taketh unto him Peter and James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart", Mk. 14:33 - "And he taketh Peter and James and John with him; and he began to fear and to be heavy.")
Jesus preached from Peter's boat, told Peter, "Fear not: from henceforth thou shalt catch men", told Peter to walk on water, allowed to Peter act as Apostolic spokesman, and at the Lord's tomb, the Angel said: "But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee; there you shall see him, as he told you."
The fact that God repeatedly distinguishes Peter in Sacred Scripture as unique from the other Apostles is further Scriptural evidence (in addition to Jesus' clear statement of intent recorded in Matthew 16:18) that He has chosen Peter to lead His Church.
And you have consistently avoided the fact that Christ spoke in Aramaic and that changes your interpretation of Matthew 16:18.
Deuteronomy 4:19 and Malachi 1:11.
