Apologists Concerned About Rick Warren's Alignment With 'Holy Father'
Charisma News ^ | 12/3/14 | Mark Andrews

Posted on 12/10/2014 6:32:20 AM PST by marshmallow

"Christian unity" is one of those terms that stir up a whole spectrum of—sometimes emotional—opinions.

On the one hand, we know that Jesus prayed to the Father concerning future believers "that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you" (John 17:21a, NIV).

On the other hand, charismatics know it is almost pointless to discuss the gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 12, 14) with Baptists or most anyone else from a mainline denomination. And Protestants of just about any stripe get riled up when they hear Catholics talking about papal infallibility or their adoration of the Virgin Mary.

It's on this latter point that Rick Warren, senior pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, and successful author, has waded into a hornet's nest of controversy by telling a Catholic News Service interviewer that Protestants and Catholics "have far more in common than what divides us" and that Catholics do not "worship Mary like she's another god."

Regarding Warren's view that Catholics do not worship Mary, Matt Slick, writing on the website of the Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry, goes into great detail with material from Roman Catholic sources that say Mary is "the all holy one," is to be prayed to, worshipped, that she "brings us the gifts of eternal life" and she "made atonement for the sins of man."

If that's not putting her in the place of Christ as a god-like figure to be worshipped, then what is it?

"We believe in Trinity, the Bible, the resurrection, and that salvation is through Jesus Christ. These are the big issues," Warren says. "But the most important thing is if you love Jesus, we're on the same team."

To Warren's point about being on the same team, Slick.....

How liberal.....

Since when is warning someone that they are in danger of being deceived *bashing* them?

Wouldn’t you warn someone if you thought they were in danger of being deceived?

That's because Jesus was standing in their presence and preaching the gospel and the miracles testified that what He was speaking was truth.

Except the first one which he wasn't ready to perform yet but did anyway....to keep the law and to honor His mother Mary's wishes, the greatly-honored Mary who carried Him in her womb and delivered the Ancient of Days as a human infant.

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

If you think I’m wrong about my warning, why don’t you say so, and provide some support for why you feel that way.

“That’s the problem, you are willfully without understanding and choose to believe in the false dogma of the Roman Catholic Church instead of the True Gospel of Christ, adding onto His work of salvation by works of your own doing, contrary to the Scriptures.”

Nope. I simply follow the truths Christ handed to us. James 2:24 makes it plain we are not saved by faith alone. We are saved by grace which we receive through faith and works.

“So, as far as I’m concerned, expending further effort with the likes of you is like casting pearls before swine.”

Sure. I think it’s a good thing you run along now since this sort of thing is really for those who can actually discuss them rather than run off while talking about “casting pearls before swine.”

“So, you concede I have posted NO anti Catholic posts?”

Not at all. I think your posts speak for themselves.

“If I did, I’m sure you would have found them and rubbed my nose in them.”

No, I just post your own words. There’s no need to rub your nose in what you write.

“Follow along.”

You’re not the one to lead anything. Remember, “you fell for my wording”? Remember, “...I tricked you.” So, no, there won’t be any following when you’re “leading”.

“The point was that you DID NOT give any indication what the youtube link was about.”

I didn’t have to.

“Trying to trick me into watching your boy Tom Hanks doing what ever he was doing.”

No trick. There was a video. I posted a link. There was no trick. According to your logic, unless someone describes the exact content of what lies at the end of link, that person is trying to trick you. That’s sounds crazy.

“He’s such a homosexualist I don’t watch anything of his.”

It doesn’t matter if you do. Doesn’t matter if you don’t. You keep making ridiculous excuses.

“So I tricked you back.”

No, you simply said something that was untrue. There was no “tricked you back” because there was no trick on my part in the first place. Again, you keep inventing ridiculous excuses.

“Like I said previously, I’m sorry I tricked you. I had no idea you would take it so hard.”

Like I said previously, calling it a trick doesn’t excuse posting something that is clearly false. I had every idea that you would take this hard.

“Thanks for vindicating me by not being able to come up with any posts where I was anti Catholic.”

Again, your posts - with their false statements and “trickery” - speak for themselves.

“LOL except of course all of my posts! Oh my...”

You said it. You already said you posted something that wasn’t true and you said you resorted to “trickery” so you might as well say this too.

“You were trying to help me by doing that? Well Thank You!”

I’m more than happy to watch you dig your hole deeper.

“Nope, the Blood of Jesus does that.”

The blood was necessary on the cross. It isn’t used in Baptism. Grace is. The blood of Christ on the cross is what created the grace. Perhaps you’ve never read Ephesians 1:7 before.

“Baptism is an outward sign by the believer that he is born again. It symbolizes being crucified with Christ.”

Baptism is an outward sign of an inward movement of grace instituted by Christ for our sanctification. Or:

“Sacraments are outward signs of inward grace, instituted by Christ for our sanctification (Catechismus concil. Trident., n. 4, ex St. Augustine, “De Catechizandis rudibus”).” http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/13295a.htm

“Therefore his/her sins have already been washed away.”

False. Remember, Paul believed in Christ from when He heard His voice on the road to Damascus. Yet it was only in Damascus, after instruction from Ananias, and his healing, that Paul was told, “Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.” (Acts 22:16)

“By the Blood of Jesus, not water baptism.”

One in the same through grace as shown in Romans 6:1-4 and you have to have water: Acts 8:38.

You already said you posted something that wasn’t true

No I didn't.

That is a false accusation.

But that's your SOP. Can't prove your false statements so you continue to attack.

Aren't you tired of making a fool of yourself?

Nope. Grace comes when one listens to Jesus, follows him and becomes one with Him. Born again. Grace is flowed onto the new believer through the shed blood of Jesus.

God make it simple, Catholicism makes it complicated.

Grace, a free gift from God to the repentant sinner who is in Jesus and Jesus is in him/her.

It doesn't come at baptism.

“No I didn’t.”

You talked about your “trickery” and you posted this: “You will see you fell for my wording so I could find out what the video was about” but now you’re claiming you did not say you posted something that wasn’t true? How do you trick someone with something true? How do you make someone - to paraphrase your own words - fall for your wording if you’re only posting what is true?

“That is a false accusation.”

Not. Even. Remotely.

“But that’s your SOP.”

You said you resorted to “trickery”. You said you “tricked” me. You said, “You will see you fell for my wording so I could find out what the video was about.” Those are your words. This has nothing to do with my “SOP”.

“Can’t prove your false statements so you continue to attack.”

What “attack”? All I’m really doing is posting your own words.

“Aren’t you tired of making a fool of yourself?”

If posting your statements about what you call your “trickery” and your statement “You will see you fell for my wording...” is somehow - bizarrely - making a fool of ME then I can absolutely live with it. And since these are your own words you should be able to live with them too shouldn’t you? I mean, they are YOUR OWN WORDS after all.

“Nope. Grace comes when one listens to Jesus, follows him and becomes one with Him.”

Oh, so you’re saying it isn’t from faith alone because there’s all that listening, following, and becoming one with Jesus, right? See, this is exactly why I see no reason whatsoever to trust Protestants or Protestant anti-Catholics when it comes to their heretical view of salvation. One second, most of you say, all you have to do is have faith. Next minute you’re saying you have to listen, follow and become one with Jesus. And all the while you essentially condemn what is said in James 2:24. Incredible.

“Born again. Grace is flowed onto the new believer through the shed blood of Jesus.”

I agree. And that happens in Baptism. Romans 6:1-4.

“God make it simple, Catholicism makes it complicated.”

Nope. We just get it right. Remember, one second you Protestants or Protestant anti-Catholics say all you have to do is have faith. Next swecond you’re saying you have to listen, follow and become one with Jesus. And all the while you essentially condemn what is said in James 2:24.

“Grace, a free gift from God to the repentant sinner who is in Jesus and Jesus is in him/her.”

And what does someone who knows not Christ when he becomes repentant? Acts 2:38.

“It doesn’t come at baptism.”

Grace sure does. Ephesians 1:7

“Oh my goodness. It was a question.”

How exactly is this a question?: “You will see you fell for my wording so I could find out what the video was about”. You apparently have forgotten that you wrote more than one thing.

“Don’t get all verklempt over it.”

No, I’m having a wonderful time watching your endless chain of excuses go down in flames.

“Pitiful...”

Appropriate description - for those excuses.

“I’m not a Protestant.”

-— “trickery” -— “You will see you fell for my wording so I could find out what the video was about”. So claiming that you’re not a Protestant is not coming to matter much.

“Post to them if that is who you wish to communicate with.”

Oh, if only some people didn’t communicate with “trickery”. Now, who does that again? Oh, that’s right - the Protestant.

You are going tangent on me.

It was a question, something about asking if it was a south park video.

It was when you were trying to trick me into allowing you to debate me with youtube links.

I didn’t fall for it.

Oh, if only some people didn’t communicate with “trickery”.

Ah ha, it didn't work! I never looked at the video.

I prefer to debate with words, not links to videos.
