From pro-life Christian Dr. La Verne Tolbert:
So, who is having these abortions? We are. According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, the research arm of Planned Parenthood:
The highest proportion (43%) identify
themselves as Protestant. 27% of women having an abortion identify themselves as Catholic, and 8% as members of another religion. 22% reported no religious affiliation. 13% identified themselves as born again or evangelical .. Those who claim to know Jesus and who protest against abortion the most account for nearly 80% of all abortions.

And 95% of women getting abortions say they would never harm a child, right?
Absolutely! People take their children to churches who never talk about SALVATION or have opportunities to accept Christ, they think they are Christians.
However, going to church does not make anyone a Christian, anymore than standing in a garage makes one a car.
The number might be accurate; I know many abortions are by black women, and many I know identify as “christian” despite having children out of wedlock, cohabitating with various men, etc. - identifying as a Christian doesn’t make it so.
I have seen many here on FR who claim to be pro-life, yet also make the claim that using contraceptives is morally no different than abortion, or that contraceptives actually *cause* pregnancy, or that pure girls would *never* have sex outside of marriage. (Within marriage, I suppose, they would only have sex when they want a baby, so if they don’t want a baby for a while, they don’t consummate their marriage?)
I can easily see where girls raised in such strict, unforgiving environments might choose not to use contraceptives, and then, when a pregnancy occurs, would choose to abort the baby rather than having to face their parents telling them that they are going to hell for their sin.
When my daughter-in-law became pregnant at age 16, her church made her stand in front of everyone so that she could be lambasted for being such a sinner. Thank God she did not choose to abort that child, my granddaughter—but she did leave that church. She was strong, but how many others, finding themselves pregnant at 16, would not be that strong and instead choose the “easy” path of abortion?
There is nothing wrong with teaching abstinence, but for goodness sake, young people *need* to be taught that it is absolutely unacceptable to not take precautions if they *do* decide to have sex (as most of them do). According to a recent Playboy survey (which I will not link), 40% of 18 to 24 year olds are virgins—meaning that 60% are not. And there is absolutely no excuse for “unwanted” pregnancies to occur, with the wide variety of contraceptive methods available.
I’ve always been of the opinion that the pro-life message can be a lot stronger—teaching kids about responsibility and birth control is a lot more effective than waiting until they are pregnant and then trying to talk them out of aborting the kid. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure—certainly true in this case.
Umm... someone failed math:
43 + 27 + 13 = 83, and that's among reporting "Christians/Catholics."
Meanwhile, 8% identify as another religion and 22% identify as non-affiliated, which means we have a 113% report. Democrat election math at its finest!
This study fails the sniff test. I call BS pn it like the other anti-Christian BS studies the the wicked puts out.
Horse:Barn Door
ALL churches need to be preaching a sexual continence, anti-fornication message.
I call BS too ... to get respondents to such a survey these surveys are likely taken from women in clinic waiting rooms or undergoing the counseling (sales) process at a clinic... it is also likely that a clinic worker is asking questions and filling in the form for the patient... I don’t trust the results and believe that many of the Christian responses were weak responses registered as such or deliberate skewing by the pollster/saleswoman.
How many people here would trust a poll by any interested party that is so tilted...
Define abortion. Are they including miscarriages that require for safety a D and C in that number? I could see women filling out the hospital form asking what religion they are answering honestly in such cases.
Exactly! Just because one identifies themselves as Christian, doesn't mean they truly are. It's one thing to say it and another to live it.
The truth is there’s not much difference in behavior between mainstream Christians and the rest of society. Once you get into the deeply religious communities it’s another story.
LOL!
Almost all women who commit abortion, never consider the fact they are are in fact MURDERING somebody.
What kind of Christian commits murder and feels zero remorse?
Guess that means Paul doesn't go to Heaven. See Acts 9:1.
Have you ever hated your brother/sister/fellow man? The Bible equates that with murder.
Have you ever looked upon a man or woman with lust? The Bible equates that with adultery.
We have the example of David in the OT. He had Urriah murdered. Yet 2 Samuel 12:13 says he confessed his sin against the Lord and the Bible records, "The Lord has taken away your sin; you shall not die."
Through Christ, there is forgiveness for ALL sins no matter how terrible they are.
I hear stories about churches who shame girls like that, yet have never heard of one close to home. We have attended evangelical churches in which girls got pregnant and the church was nothing but supportive. Same thing in the fundamental Baptist church we now attend, support and forgiveness, never condemnation.
Where are these cruel self righteous Christians?
“They think using birth control is bad”
Women who murder children have no moral qualms whatsoever with using birth control.
“Democrat election math at its finest!”
(sigh)
No.
“The highest proportion (43%) identify themselves as Protestant. 27% of women having an abortion identify themselves as Catholic, and 8% as members of another religion. 22% reported no religious affiliation. 13% identified themselves as born again or evangelical.”
43 (Protestant - of all types)
+
27 (Catholics)
+
8 (another religion)
+
22 (no religious affiliation)
= 100%
Of that 100%, 13% “identified themselves as born again or evangelical”
Get it now?
Obama identifies himself as Christian also. Just sayin.
When you explain it that way, yes, it makes sense. However, the article writer was not as concise.
