There will always be, until Christ’s return, theologians who disagree about what is a molehill and what is a mountain.

But it is very bothersome to see any church accepting a partnership with Caesar, any Caesar. That’s not in the mission statement. It’s great if Caesar is a Christian. It’s not so great to hijack church administration into the duty of secular governments. And when the Caesar in question is Putin, it looks like downright evil. What church that had half its sanity left would want that?

It's tough not to do that in Russia, where the Orthodox Church has long been, more or less, the Office of Licensed Liturgists under the Russian Ministry of Religion.

A lot of the clergy who were KGB under the Soviets, I'm told, never repented and were never removed. They just go with the flow. (Of course, not all did. They ended up either in Paris or in prison.)
