It's tough not to do that in Russia, where the Orthodox Church has long been, more or less, the Office of Licensed Liturgists under the Russian Ministry of Religion.

A lot of the clergy who were KGB under the Soviets, I'm told, never repented and were never removed. They just go with the flow. (Of course, not all did. They ended up either in Paris or in prison.)

It would take guts to tell Putin where to go with that proposal. But not doing it, sacrifices Christian integrity. God might well stand up for them with miracles if they really meant it in the Lord’s name.
