A month or two ago there was some articles online about how the Duke student was having second thoughts about the porn business.

She lost her financial aid I think because she was making money from porn: http://www.alternet.org/education/downside-porn-star-success-belle-knox-will-lose-her-financial-aid

He quotes scripture in every single sermon. All of them.

He quotes fragments of Scripture and wretches them out of context.

Did you know, that by using the Osteen method, the Bible says “there is no God”?

I don’t see any towards prostitutes.

His instruction to go and sin no more indicates He expects there to be a change of mind and way of earning a living. For at least one other, He cast out demons and thus healed her, again meaning there was a change by her, a shift away from prostitution.

So did Satan when trying to tempt Jesus.

...”He quotes scripture in every single sermon. All of them”....

Olsteens scripture quotes have zero context and i would go so far as to say he “picks” scripture to back what HE wants to deliver rather as a motivational speaker...

You are aware that Olsteen admits he’s a motivational speaker and not a preacher... and that what he does is a family business? The problem the Christian community has with this is that he then needs to stop saying he’s a preacher and that his business organization is a church.....which he’ll never do because that will stop the flow of revenue and tax all of it.

Over and over in Olsteens interviews he says “I don’t know” when asked pointed questions any good preacher could and do answer......he says that because he doesn’t know the scriptures sufficient enough except to back his motivational points.

“If you follow my seven steps I will give you ‘the keys’ to being a better you” as Osteen states.....further stating..” look inside yourself and discover your greatness” ...Is New Age teaching straight from all the other prosperity preachers and his long visits as a child to India with the Hindu religion. This is not Christianity ...self Glory is not what Christ taught.

Osteen message is “YOU can change”...not that Christ died and bore your sins for you....his message reaks of you’ve done wrong against yourself rather than the great sin committed against a Holy God which need forgiveness.

Lots of people who aren’t saved quote Scripture.

Satan quotes Scripture as well.

And he takes it out of context, too.

Quoting Scripture does not mean he’s a Christian by any stretch of the imagination.

All it does in his case, is give a *Christian* flavor to his positive thinking, Sunday morning motivational messages.

Heck, he replies *I don't know* to questions that a baby in Christ ought to be able to answer.

Okay, I’ve read your more recent posts and just do not understand how you can make the statement you did in post 12 or why you would post such a statement. Shock effect?

Do you know the difference between a sermon and an infomercial?

If Osteen dressed like this, he'd still pack the house with stupid Houstonians every Sunday.

He's a disgusting con man.

Reminds of this....

“What would things look like if Satan really took control of a city? Over a half century ago, Presbyterian minister Donald Grey Barnhouse offered his own scenario in his weekly sermon that was also broadcast nationwide on CBS radio. Barnhouse speculated that if Satan took over Philadelphia, all of the bars would be closed, pornography banished, and pristine streets would be filled with tidy pedestrians who smiled at each other. There would be no swearing. The children would say, “Yes, sir” and “No, ma’am,” and the churches would be full every Sunday . . . where Christ is not preached.”

Osteen has stated many times that he wants to focus not on sin, but on the fact that "Jesus likes everyone. He isn’t against anybody.” We all know that Jesus exemplified love. And scripture tells us that God loves us. The problem with Joel’s message isn’t that he wants everyone to be happy. The problem is that by not addressing sin, and our need of repentance, he removes the need of the Cross - Wayne Dupree (Newsninja2012.com)

In recent years, Osteen has taken a stand for the LGBT movement, stating that he believes homosexuals will spend eternity in Heaven. He speaks very little about the repentance and turning away from sin (John 8:11) which is required. In an interview with Piers Morgan, he and his wife agreed that they would attend the marriage of a gay couple if they have a close relationship with them. He would do this out of respect for the person. How about the respect for the Gospel and what the Lord says about sexual sin? - Wayne Dupree (newsninja2012.com)

Not a preacher who doesn't take a stand on homosexuality

I worry about you on these threads, but that's a serious charge to level and something I thought I should see for myself. I did a quick search which came back with a video by this title: Joel Osteen: ‘The Scripture Says That Being Gay Is A Sin

And also came back with this on FR:

Pastors, LGBT Groups React to Joel Osteen's Remarks on Sin

To which, you replied:

Osteen calls homosexuality a sin?

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

I have a pretty good idea the kind of trouble I'm in, so I worry about what you and a few others here are doing to your selves.

Why? Because my sense is that the Holy Spirit uses those who let Him, especially willing souls with a large audience of hurting, life damaged souls in need of, not a lecture about their sins, but rather to hear the Way out of the pain and into His Healing, Love and Peace.

On these threads, you have had testimony after testimony of people who told you how his sermons helped them through a difficult time, yet you ignore them or argue with them. Curious.

My take is that Osteen or anyone else could not give someone words that do what others tell you has happened for them. That's the stuff of the Holy Spirit and their stories confirm this for me.

From that point of view, you'd be wiser to not go around hammering on a messenger who is willingly being used by the Holy Spirit and who is giving all credit to Him.

You don't know who needed to hear the message, who would be open to that particular messenger as with no other due to the gifts God has given him, but instead is influenced by you to turn away.

You don't seem to be able to see Who actually was at work carefully fanning that dying ember back to Life, to burn anew with the Holy Fire our Creator originally placed in each of us, but for so many is being tamped down or stamped out. You seem to be too busy with your mission to catch that detail.

I don't worry about Osteen and am not defending him. He doesn't need defending. I worry about you and a few others here.

But, I bet you don't believe a word I've told you and are going to look for quotes to show me how wrong I am.

Osteen does not preach what people need to get saved.

Jesus death on the cross is about more than just giving us a comfortable, happy life that lets us open our own doors to be all that we want to be.

There is no good news without people being aware that they are sinners who are heading for hell, and he doesn’t address sin, hell, judgment, the need for forgiveness, reconciliation, new birth, or any of the other things the apostles preached to the world.

Encouragement is fine and has its place, but it is NOT the gospel and encouraging people to *accept Jesus* for what they can get out of Him, is not going to get people saved.
