Why Christians Should Love Halloween

Frank Weathers says he’s done apologizing for Halloween. I’m way ahead of him. I never started.

Halloween is a great holiday! I think it’s ridiculous that so many people think they’re pious for boycotting what should be a wonderful spiritual and evangelical opportunity. Plus, a lot of fun.

Here’s what I love about Halloween:

"Strong is the Puritanism on this thread."

There are those who believe that all of the major Christian festivals - Christmas, Easter, and Halloween - have become overlaid with pagan accretions. To some extent, that is true. But - ironically - it's also true that many New Agers - especially the old-fashioned Unity and New Thought and Theosophy types - believe that Christianity itself, with the doctrine of blood sacrifice - is also pagan.

I wonder if putting up a sign saying “Neighborhood kids only!” would get you thrown in jail.

Don't give them any ideas.

Didn’t celebrate Halloween for religious reasons as a kid. I still sympathize with those reasons now that I have a kid but I’ve got practical reasons too: the rest of the year I emphasize that she’s not to take food from (or talk with) strangers,. I’m trying to teach her not to ask for handouts and certainly that she’s not entitled to anything from anyone. And I find the emphasis on death, horror, and the macabre to be disturbing.

Plus there’s the issue of little girl costumes being inappropriate but we would just dress her in her astronaut suit or make out own, if we participated.

I do wish there were better ways to opt out of the trick or treat thing. Guess we’ll go out for dinner that night.

Do you celebrate Birthdays? Celebrations started in pagan customs.

if someone doesn’t like Halloween, how is that a crime or any issue at all?

It’s Reformation Day to us. Fear of anything but God is idolatry!

"...illegals and their children with NO costumes, no greeting (a pillow case held out), no thank you,...

The repulsive sense of entitlement I sense in these children and their "Gibsmedat" parents means that everyone suffers, especially the kids whose parents care about them enough to teach them manners and proper behavior.

The ghetto demographic ruins it for everyone.

AGAIN.

I live in Oregon which is one of the most pagan states in the U.S. so the paganism is likely more in your face here. Here there is a darkness that you can actually feel around Halloween and the costumes and decorations are extremely dark and demonic. There is also a lot of overtly satanic stuff that goes on here around Halloween. For example, there was a report in the news today that someone was stealing and mutilating cats in Clackamas County.

The religious celebration is of the “triduum” called “Allhallowtide”.

1) The first eve, Halloween, is not designed to honor or elevate death, evil and the demonic, but for the righteous to scorn them and send them on their way, to clear the path for what is to come.

2) The following day (Nov 1) is All Saints’ Day, or “All Hallows”, a day set aside to honor the Saints, known and unknown, as those who were of the best of mankind.

3) November 2 is All Souls’ Day. This is to honor the deceased who were righteous, whether they were family or not. A remembrance of those who loved and were loved, with a prayer that they find everlasting peace.

While these three days are well described by the Roman Catholics, they are not exclusive to them, and many Protestant denominations share in them.

So for those who condemn Halloween, instead, you might consider elevating all three days with consideration, as you might have missed the celebration of the righteous and the memory of those you have loved and lost.

Well, he can give me all the excuses in the world of why I should love or even like Halloween, but I HATE it.

It’s gone well past cute costumes and trick-r-treating.

The gruesome, ghoulish displays of people hanging from trees by nooses, witches, horror movie stuff, is just demonic. Too much emphasis on the ungodly side of it all.

Halloween is celebrated on a "witches' sabbath" ...

It is "indeed" an abomination.

The RCC is paganized Christianity, it comes as no surprise therefore to see all these FR Catholics falling all over themselves in support of Halloween, the most pagan of all “holidays.”

Sure, it’s perfectly okay for Christian who follow Jesus Christ, God on earth, who created true holy days and listed them in the bible, to substitute a day that glorifies demons, satan and other dark forces. Makes sense to me.
