... So, the Pope wants full and free debate, and free deliberations... except when he doesn't. And when the secret ballot reveals a conservative majority -- then he interferes against what had been settled beforehand to get what he wants. It is his prerogative, of course, even if it severely contradicts his own words and commitments, and, ultimately, his reliability.

“The Pope is just minding the store until He comes back.”
“7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; 11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
12 I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.” - Jesus

**Frances.**
Are you saying the Pope is a girl? That’s a girl’s name. A man’s name is spelled ‘Francis’.
And the Holy Spirit cannot “lead us through all truth” through a Pope and bishops? Why in Sam Hill not?
Doesn’t seem to be working real well with this Pope. Nor with many others. Lots of bishops stink to heaven, too.
But the Holy Spirit is the Vicar of Christ, not a man.
This is actually believed to have happened once when Pope Sixtus V - thinking himself a great Latin scholar - decided to retranslate the Vulgate with disastrous results.
Pope Sixtus V, 1585 - 1590 was, in most repects, a very successful pope. He eliminated lawlessnes in northern Italy, re-filled the Vatican treasury by the use of good business sense and gained control of a rambunctious college of cardinals. What he was not was a Latin scholar. Nevertheless, he re-translated the Vulgate. The result was a Bible of errors.
He had already issued the bull on his new Vulgate and had it printed. The night before it was to be issued, he died, apparently of natural causes. St. Robert Bellarmine re-re-translated the Vulgate, correctly, and it was issued properly.

This is a great example which can be used to illustrate the protection the Holy Spirit exerts over the Church and the pope, to protect them from error in faith and morals. Before he was about to promote it "ex cathedra," he suddenly died.
Figure it out.
The pope's Petrine duty is to preserve intact the original revelation by Christ to the Apostles that has been handed down to him and in turn to hand it on to his successor.
The Pope has no right to teach anything contrary to the Catholic Rule of Faith (Scripture and Sacred tradition)... or to change anything revealed to the Apostles by Christ and handed down through the Apostolic succession.
assumed and self-appointed authority IMO
Pope, as expected, names 6 liberals, including Wuerl, to draft report.
Liberation Theology already in... Orthodoxy, Conservatives, and Tridentine Maas, out!!!
I think I’ll just go home. I wonder if the one of the Eastern rite Catholic churches would be better. I’ve been to a Maronite Mass a couple times, but I don’t know.
“Cum Ex Apostolatus Officio” was issued by Pope Paul IV on 15 February 1559. It focused on the validity of a prelate or Pope in the event they were in heresy or apostasy. This Papal Bull was issued Ex Cathedra, so it is valid in perpetuity. It’s out there on the web. The version I found is in Latin with an English translation. It’s very interesting.
The Catholic Church will never be socially liberal. You can’t change the word of God. I am not a fan of Francis but he can no more change the doctrine of the Catholic Church than I can. He can tell his liberal priests to look the other way and not preach certain things and that’s what I am afraid of. That’s been going on with abortion for years. My parish priest never mentions it. He never mentions any social doctrine. Others do though, some don’t. Francis is a liberal Jesuit priest and I don’t a very deep thinker. But this too shall pass. The Church has dealt with other bad popes and he’s no different. The pope’s words on faith and morals are infallible, which means he can make no mistake. In otherwords Benedict and JP2 made no mistake. Popes safeguard the truth, which is based on the Word of God.
Aha, thank you for that info!
.....Yet there is Eastern Rite Catholic Churches, believe it or not.
Take confort, the next Pope will more likely be conservative.
Thank-you and God Bless.
Jesus IS the head of the Church!
Same here, that is why I took the tagline that came from Pope Francis OUT.
.....Or rather Martin Luther’s “opinion!”
