One in 10 Church of England Bishops 'Could be Secretly Gay' – Says Bishop
The Daily Telegraph (UK) ^ | 9/28/14 | John Bingham

Bishop of Buckingham claims as many as a dozen of his colleagues could be trapped in the “episcopal closet” because of power wielded by tiny “reactionary clique” in Church of England

A serving bishop has issued a stinging public denunciation of “duplicity and hypocrisy” in the Church of England over homosexuality – claiming that around as many as one in 10 of his fellow bishops could be secretly gay but unwilling to speak publicly.

The Rt Rev Dr Alan Wilson, the Bishop of Buckingham, accused the current episcopate of preaching a 1950s “Janet and John” image of human relationships while adopting an “eyes wide shut” approach to homosexuality in its own ranks and the wider church.

His remarks come in a new book published next week setting out what he sees as the theological case for a major reassessment of the Church’s stance on sexuality.

In comments bound to infuriate traditionalists he rejects outright the idea that the Bible forbids gay marriage insisting that the Church’s official teaching is largely based on “our grandparents’ cultural dictates” rather than the teaching of Jesus.

Dr Wilson also dismisses a recent order banning Anglican clergy from marrying their same-sex partners as unlawful despite what he calls as its “blustering menacing tone”.

Are we to believe that up until the 1950s -- for nearly 2000 years --- the Christian Church was perfectly fine with homosexuals, and homosexual marriage, and then WHAM! in the 1950s, right around the time of Eisenhower and Harold MacMillan, people perked up and said, "I disapprove of homosexuality". And this idea kind of caught on and ushered in a sudden new age of anti-homosexuality?

Is this what he's suggesting?

But but but I thought gay Catholic priests was only a thing because we didn’t have a married clergy!

I don’t usually comment on “Religion” threads, but an article like this is consistent with an article posted earlier today about the feminization of the Church.

There’s no denying that certain Churches are very PC, and very gay-friendly (look at the reports of priest/young men interaction).

Sometimes kooks get into the best churches and....stay there a long time. A Catholic bishop in England just quit....due to his sinfulness....how can he do that? He chooses to continue his sin rather than submit his weak state to Christ and cease the sin. He’s choosing hell over God VOLUNTARILY.

The priesthood is a calling...some I suppose hear other voices, perhaps their own, and what is the ordaining bishop to know for sure? We must carry on. Another one bites the dust, yet there by the grace of God go I.

Seriously, the organizations should be officially called, “The Former Church of England”, or FCofE.

A future conservative Prime Minister should privatize the whole lot, turning the management of the FCofE over to the African Anglican communion, while giving the sack to the current leadership, archbishops, bishops, priests and lay ministers (all intentionally not capitalized).

The Anglican Bishops aren’t following the Bible are they?

I heard a Catholic Bishop on Fox say that 50% of Catholic priests were gay. 10% vs 50%. Perhaps there is something to the marriage thing.

Being married or unmarried isn’t the problem, but a large powerful gender isolating international group that is so purely male, costumed and ceremonial, and front and center to it’s masses and that so thoroughly rejects females, even for dating and for marriage, and family, for centuries, is going to be a natural magnet vocation for homosexuals to some degree, and that will be reflected in many of it’s leaders and teachers, and members within it’s monasteries, seminaries and institutions, and behind all of the closed doors of it’s vast and private organization.

I think a lot of libs do that, i.e., use the term “1950s” as if human history never existed prior to that. I guess it’s their way of glorifying the left wing 1960s as the time period that “liberated” us from the 1950s or rather the “1950s” as they imagine them.

‘In comments bound to infuriate traditionalists he rejects outright the idea that the Bible forbids gay marriage insisting that the Church’s official teaching is largely based on “our grandparents’ cultural dictates” rather than the teaching of Jesus.’

And all this time I thought it was because of what Jesus said in Matthew 19:4-6

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+19%3A4-6&version=GNV

“4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning, made them male and female,

5 And said, For this cause, shall a man leave father and mother, and [a]cleave unto his wife, and they which were [b]two, shall be one flesh?

6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. Let not man therefore put asunder that, which God hath [c]coupled together.”

Also, my grandparents lived long after the time period that Jesus said those words as did their grandparents before them.

Protestant. Chris Wallace did the interview, and the Bishop said it very clearly. So either he lied, or your are.
