Archbishop of Canterbury questions God's existence

Justin Welby admits he sometimes doubts the existence of God, but he is certain about Jesus.

The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby last weekend gave a powerful statement about his recent doubts over the existence of God. Welby disclosed that recently, while he was jogging with his dog near his London home, he asked why God does not intervene to stop injustice in the world.

Welby’s statement appeared in a personal interview he gave in front of hundreds of people at Bristol Cathedral last weekend, The Guardian reports.

When the interviewer, BBC Bristol’s Lucy Tegg, asked Welby “Do you ever doubt?” the Archbishop paused and then said: “Yes. I do. In lots of different ways, really. It's a very good question. That means I've got to think about what I'm going to say. Yes I do." He added: "I love the Psalms, if you look at Psalm 88, that's full of doubt."

Welby said he was aware that his statement might be “not what the Archbishop of Canterbury should say", but he said that there are moments in life when people question the existence of God.

However, according to Welby, he is very certain that Jesus existed. “We know about Jesus, we can't explain all the questions in the world, we can't explain about suffering, we can't explain loads of things but we know about Jesus," he said

Know about Jesus but can’t explain suffering?

Sort of like having a brain but unable to use it.

How do these people choose church leaders? Pull names out of a hat? Dart games? Magic 8 balls?

Anglican Church....stick a fork in it. It’s done.

Recently a German bomber named Benedict XVI (the B-16) appeared over London & invited C of E’rs to enter into communion with Rome.

Criticize Catholicism, but at least we ain’t got no Druids.

Dominus Vobiscum, y’all.

Ever learning but unable to discern the Truth. How sad nonbelievers lead so many astray with the false hope and false promises.

Not sure of God but certain of Jesus?

“Who do you say I am?” Quote from Jesus. “You are the Messiah, the Son of God...” Quote from St. Peter.

Evidently, the good bishop has never heard of or listened to these words.

Of course Jesus existed, but it sounds like this guy is actually philosophically really just an atheist. I’d kick him out of my church, if I were a British Anglican, but that’s just me-either you believe the Truth that God revealed or you don’t!

For someone in his position, this is really a sophomoric question. It shows that he's entirely unsuitable for the job.

This is so not surprising, here is a man that is supposed to be able to show others the way to God, but has clearly never really experienced the Spirit of God/Jesus in his own life.

Very sad! God Bless the poor soul!

Really who cares? There is Catholicism, and then there’s everything else under the sun.

Is he saying he believes there was an historical person named Jesus? or that he believes that Jesus is God? or does he believe that Jesus is the son of God? If he believes one of the latter two choices,, then he believes there can be a son of God without their being a God. His religion kind of falls apart in front of his eyes if he’s come to this illogical slight of hand conclusion. He can’t have it both ways. If there’s no God, then Jesus is one more compassionate and inspiring teacher of Jewish law and Jewish tradition.

His not-so-Excellency needs a vacation, psychiatrist or new confessor. WHAT a stupid thing for him to say.
WHERE did he think that Jesus came from? New Jersey?

Justin Welby admits he sometimes doubts the existence of God.

He wouldn’t if he had any authority from God.

It is my belief that there are certain people who could be nothing but Anglican. Archbishop Welby appears to be one of those people.
