Pope Francis has been a breath of fresh air for many Catholics seeking greater liberty and a growing concern for conservative Christians who take issue with his comments about homosexuality and other cultural issues.
But the pontiff's latest statement is sparking an uproar from believers around the world. Pope Francis sent a tweet Tuesday that absolutely violates the truth of Scripture:
"The Christian who does not feel that the Virgin Mary is his or her mother is an orphan," Pope Francis tweeted.
As of the time I wrote this column it had been retweeted about 4,000 times and many of the responses were in appropriately unkind. It's not appropriate to attack the pope for his beliefs. It's more appropriate to share the truth...

Yes....but I’m not so sure ‘many’ catholics can understand what that is....for much of their practices are focused on the ‘senses’, tactile and otherwise, and memorizing what they are taught rather than seeking for themselves if what they are being taught is true....they are far too quick to seek a Priest to ‘explain’ because they put their trust in their leadership, and ‘things’, rather than on Jesus and His word...much like the Muslims do with their Imams...then to see what God wants to say about their teachings.

The mindreading comes in with the statement "You know that."

HOWEVER, Elijah is mocking pagans, so the bomb on allah’s head fits. I think the idea of Jesus chiding the Pharisees is a better example to follow for both Catholics and Protestants. And I'm not sure, but I think a lot of Christ's words to the Pharisees were not so much to change their minds, but to educate His followers. (”Do not be like those that....., but be.....”)
I know on this thread, and similar, I learn a lot. Mostly from the more reasoned posts. I recall one post talking about how Catholics ask Mary to pray for them - similar to asking a friend to pray for them. I don't “talk” with dead people, although I know many do have “conversations” with their deceased moms and dads (not sure there is any biblical reason for it); but it did give another viewpoint of how, at least the Catholic poster, viewed Mary - and wasn't worshipping her.
I'm also amazed (and disturbed) at all of the photos of bones, relics, etc. The relics remind me of the Golden Calf.
So... when all the Catholics leave this thread... is that their victory????

Yes they are. The only saving grace is that each and every post shows such utter ignorance for history, art and how civilization has evolved over time. Completely ignorant.

If you have valid issues about the enforcement of the rules, push the “private reply” button at the bottom of this reply.
One of the rules of the Religion Forum is that if a member is mentioned in a post, they must be pinged.
Moderators are members.
If you want to join a discussion, you might actually TRY to read back to get the gist of what is being talked about. Jumping into the end of a thread accusing others of hate and bigotry is a pretty hateful and bigoted thing to do especially when you've added nothing to the conversation but mean words of your own, accusations and general defensiveness for being perpetually offended. From what I've read, that's standard for you but I hope you don't think you are effecting the thread in a positive way.
The moderators on these open threads are some of the BEST FRiends we have here. They remain objective and fair in spite of the often rebellious rantings and complaining by those who were dinged for rule breaking. JR couldn’t pay me enough to do their job and they volunteer! I say THANK YOU Moderators!
