"Why Christians get the 10 commandments wrong" (Salon)
Salon ^ | 7/14/14 | Valerie Tarico

Posted on 07/15/2014 3:17:34 PM PDT by Faith Presses On

The American Bible Society funds an annual “State of the Bible” survey, and this spring the Christian Post cheered some of their findings: “The Bible continues to dominate both mind space and book retail space as America’s undisputed best-seller.” According to the study, conducted by Barna, over 88 percent of American homes contain a Bible. In fact, the average is 4.7 copies per household.

Now, I should note that a young non-religious friend once came home from school with a bright green Gideon’s New Testament that she later touted as a reserve of fine rolling papers, which may explain why the household average isn’t a solid 5.

But most Americans treat the Bible with some degree of deference.

Among adults who responded to the survey, 56% were classified as “pro-Bible” meaning they think it is the actual or inspired word of God with no errors. More than a quarter said that they read from the Good Book daily or at least several times a week. Fully half said the Bible contains everything a person needs to know to lead a meaningful life.

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

Bibliolatry is unhealthy and unscriptural.

Since even Rome (well, not without room for interpretation) holds to the plenary inspiration of Scripture, in distinction to the words expressing Tradition of "infallible" papal pronouncements, making Scripture the assured word of God;

and which word the Lord magnifies above all His name, (Ps. 138:2) And which Job esteemed above His very food, (Job. 23:12) and which the Lord said we should live by;(Mt. 4:4)

Then explain how one can be guilty of "Bibliolatry" and provide any example of this in Scripture, and contrary to making God as being God.

We will be waiting.

But, before I go. I leave you with this prayer:

Thus while we are waiting, provide just one prayer out of the aprox. 200 the Holy Spirit inspired in Scripture of a soul praying to anyone in Heaven by the Lord, or of not having direct access to God thru Christ in His holy temple, and thus of any created being hearing virtually infinite prayers addressed to them in Heaven

Offering up prayers to God as a memorial (Rv 5:8; 8:3,5; cf. Lv. 2:2,15,16; 24:7; Num. 5:15) does not, nor will extrapolation from earthly relations will not do.

If you cannot then cease from trying to present PTDS as being supported from Scripture, and admit it has its basis in tradition, resting upon the presumed assured veracity of Rome with its presuppositions. Which you would be best not try to support.

I know that already, but it is obvious to the most casual observer that most Roman Catholics (that I know) pray to those dead people and lift Mary up to the post of co-redemptress (a position never found in Scripture). Your list of commandments also follows the usual ignoring of the second which specifically forbids your groups idolatry! As for bowing down, your judgment is not in following with the facts! It does follow your usual form of never straying from the "party line"! Obama would be proud to have such a blind follower.

Thanks for agreeing with me.

Amazing, a RC seems to deny lifting Mary up to the post of co-redemptress, and that the 2nd commandment forbids what RCs engage in, while she does not stray from the papal party line.

Of course, she did not make herself clear so we might see what she meant, but likewise one would have a hard time in Bible times explaining kneeling before a statue and praising the entity it represented in the unseen world, and as having Divine powers and glory, and making offerings and beseeching such for Heavenly help, directly accessed by mental prayer.

Moses, put down those rocks! I was only engaging in hyper dulia, not adoring her. Can't you tell the difference?

Once the human mind has accepted a powerful story - even though based on fiction - you will not convince them with logic, facts from scripture, nor evidence of any kind. They desperately cling to a falsehood rather than accept their understanding, life experience and cherished hopes are false.

In this instance, the pagan custom of praying to the dead and exalting poor humble Mary, and declaring some as “saints” while perverting the Biblical teaching of what “saint” means, will not end without God opening the eyes through conversion. All we can do is tell the truth in love.

The good news is that Roman Catholics are taught much that is true as a foundation.

I wish I knew how to post pictures, tried many times and as I say I am a little dense. I’d like to show you a picture of a couple of my goats..They aren’t sissy’s either, especially during breeding season. I alway had to check to see who was in what pasture. My big one could get real mean during that month...His horns were 44 inches from tip to tip. Took me and hubby to take him down for hoof clipping. One shearing we got 44 pounds of mohair from him, that was a record. Poor goats looked great before they lost all their mohair, then they just looked kinda sad...

It could be that you haven’t put them on a web server. You can’t post them from a hard drive directly.

Here is an easy one to use.

The good news is that Roman Catholics are taught much that is true as a foundation.

That's likely a hindrance...They get the appearance of being right with a few things that are true while the rest, that which counts for their salvation is replaced with the fakery that their religion does so well...

You forgot the one about not making images and bowing down to them and split the last one into two.

The good news is that Roman Catholics are taught much that is true as a foundation.

Yet as the veracity of that rest upon the fallacious premise of the assured veracity of Rome, they believe other things which made the Truth of no salvific effect. To the eternal horror of those who choose it.
