Jesus Never Discussed Homosexuality Publicly, Says Megachurch Pastor of His Refusal to Talk Openly About Gay Marriage

Hillsong NYC Pastor Carl Lentz commented in a recently aired CNN feature on his megachurch why he refuses to publicly express his position on homosexuality by noting that Jesus, who "was in the thick of an era where homosexuality … was wildly prevalent," did not address the issue "on the record in front of people."

Lentz made the remark when CNN reporter Poppy Harlow noted in an interview with the pastor and his wife, Laura Lentz, "Every article I've read about you guys says you decline to discuss gay marriage."

"Yes, it's a misquote because I do discuss it, just not the way people want me to," said Lentz. "When it comes to homosexuality, I refuse to let another human being or a media moment dictate how we approach it. Jesus was in the thick of an era where homosexuality, just like it is today, was widely prevalent. And I'm still waiting for someone to show me the quote were Jesus addressed it on the record in front of people. You won't find it because he never did."

The couple shared that gay men and women were welcomed at Hillsong NYC, with Lentz stating, "We have a lot of gay men and women in our church and I pray we always do."

Mrs. Lentz added, "It's not our place to tell anyone how they should live, it's – that's their journey."

Why does that church exists if it is not trying to save the souls of sinners?

But he discussed hellfire constantly. Moreso than he discussed heaven, if you go simply by mentions in the gospels.

Time for people to leave that church and go to one that supports the views of Christ and the Apostles.

Yah'shua was/is/and will always be a Jew.

As the YHvH of the WORD He condemned homosexually.

Perhaps the pastor believes Yah'shua
is not YHvH, creator of the universe.

Ok...true, but Jesus also did not publicly condemn pedophilia, bestiality, necrophilia, cannibalism, or incest.

Yet virtually everybody would say he would not approve of those....

Wasn't there a woman who was about to be stoned to death for a mere adultery, an offense that the modern society does not even consider worth mentioning? Did Jesus ever pronounce her innocent?

Jesus was familiar with the Old Testament, and he referred to it. The Old Testament was not much in favor of homosexuality, and it was the law of the land at that time. Would priests allow anyone to flaunt acting counter to the law as they understood it? They certainly didn't allow that to Jesus!

No place in the New Testament of Jesus speaking against homosexuals, but Paul did. But there are lots of places in the Old Testament where God condemns homosexuals. Read Leviticus 20:13 and several places in Deuteronomy. God also condemns cross dressing so that could apply to transsexuals and transvestites.

Baloney. Homosexuality was not at all accepted in the ancient Hebraic culture/society. That is why there was no need to mention it. Settled science as we say today. On the other hand Paul operated in Hellenic culture where it was common so he needed to bring it up.
The pastor in question is either ignorant or a liar. I do love Hillsong music.

One was not supposed to mention perverted acts. He did condemn all lust and fornication as coming from the evil one. That statement is a condemnation of homosexual lust and acts.

Dear Mr Lentz,

Please read Matthew 19:5-6. Jesus was a Jew and followed the Law Of Moses. Homosexuality was STRICTLY forbidden.

Jesus, the GIVER OF LAW, restated this principle...

“And He answered and said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE,

and said, ‘FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH’? “

You don’t have to explicitly condemn every type of sin. You explicitly give the order GOD established. THAT MAKES IT THE LAW OF CHRIST.

Jesus speaks about marriage:

“Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

Matthew's Gospel, chapter 19

Jesus also recognized the law of Moses, as a faithful Jew, he obeyed the law.

Christ fulfilled the law in it’s entirety, and he did not sin. This is the reason why we are saved. Christ would not condone sin, and homosexuality is a sin. Unrepentant sinners will not enter the kingdom.
These poeple will be cryng, “Lord, Lord!” And they will be refused.
