Sex After Christianity - Gay marriage is not just a social revolution but a cosmological one.
The American Conservative ^ | Rod Dreher

Posted on 04/16/2014 4:06:41 AM PDT by don-o

Twenty years ago, new president Bill Clinton stepped on a political landmine when he tried to fulfill a campaign promise to permit gay soldiers to serve openly. Same-sex marriage barely registered as a political cause; the country was then three years away from the Defense of Marriage Act and four years from comedian Ellen DeGeneres’s prime-time coming out.

Then came what historians will one day recall as a cultural revolution. Now we’re entering the endgame of the struggle over gay rights and the meaning of homosexuality. Conservatives have been routed, both in court and increasingly in the court of public opinion. It is commonly believed that the only reason to oppose same-sex marriage is rank bigotry or for religious reasons, neither of which—the argument goes—has any place in determining laws or public standards.

The magnitude of the defeat suffered by moral traditionalists will become ever clearer as older Americans pass from the scene. Poll after poll shows that for the young, homosexuality is normal and gay marriage is no big deal—except, of course, if one opposes it, in which case one has the approximate moral status of a segregationist in the late 1960s.

This is a long article worth a careful reading. Last night we heard a man from the SBC Ethics and Policy group opine that homosexual marriage is basically a done deal in all 50 states. Just a matter of time.

Dreher offers his general thoughts on what may follow from that.

What will follow will be:

Legalization of prostitution
Lowering of the age of consent
Legalization of drugs beyond Marijuana

Gee I hope “conservatives” save us by working hard on capitol gains tax cuts. /s

Most do not realize how brain-washed our society is. The ability to think independently and freely is almost lost. Knowing many gay people throughout my life, and observing the outcome of their lives, I consistently arrive at the same conclusion: homosexuality is a mental illness. It is anything but normal, as we’re being asked to buy into. Wake up, people!

Freud had some interesting insights into this topic which he wrote about in "the Future of an Illusion" and "Totem and Taboo". Basically, in his opinion, it was inevitable that God and religion would gradually cease to be a factor in moral rationalization throughout civilized society and that would leave many people with no means of rationalizing moral behavior which would, inevitably, lead to a break down in all forms of morality. This breakdown would be further exacerbated by the widespread observance of taboo prohibitions being violated without immediate divine consequences basically in a "monkey see, monkey do" manner.

The bible offers further insight into this in Isaiah 5:20: Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!

I consistently arrive at the same conclusion: homosexuality is a mental illness.

It used to be considered one, and was as much the subject of academic research as any other mental illness. I wonder what has happened, that over the past few decades, the idea that people who are mentally ill in a sexuality related matter should be treated as if they are completely normal. They are not being helped like that, any more than a schizophrenic would be helped by refusing to treat the illness on the pretext that delusions are a subset of normal behavior.

Since research into the causes of sexuality-based mental illness continues, research into treatments will follow. Once these illnesses can be treated, maybe some of these absurdities (like legalizing "gay marriage", whatever that is) will disappear?

“Conservative Christians have lost the fight over gay marriage and, as we have seen, did so decades before anyone even thought same-sex marriage was a possibility.”

Civil divorce and remarriage and then serial civil divorce and remarriage conditioned many that marriage is just a state contract that can be broken and resumed between any parties the state allows for. How it decides what to allow is based on whatever judges, pols, or the majority of the voting public think it should allow at any one time. That’s it, that is all marriage will ever be to the state. Many are conditioned to think marriage comes from the state, so they will accept any ‘marriage’ no matter how ridiculous simply because the state recognizes it.

From Rudyard Kipling, a century ago:

...

On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life
(Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)
Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "The Wages of Sin is Death."

...

And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!

Except there is a growing movement to make such treatment illegal.

The struggle for the rights of “a small and despised sexual minority” would not have succeeded if the old Christian cosmology had held:

Just as it did with abortion, Scotus imposed homosexual rights on an unwilling nation.

Elections cannot reverse what Scotus has wrought.

The dumbmasses always choose Barabbas instead of Jesus.

It’s easier than standing up for what you believe in.

There is always a Caiaphas around to offer the good up for persecution.

But who is standing up for Jesus?

Most do not realize how brain-washed our society is.... Knowing many gay people throughout my life,

You have been brainwashed, too.

They're homosexual perverts. Sodomites. The commit buggery and other acts against nature, and define themselves and their lives around their abominable proclivities. I know this, because they and their foul kind have browbeaten you into calling them "gay" ... and thereby covering up their perversion. Worse yet, you know it's perverted ... you say so yourself ... but you use their propaganda terms. Wake up, people!

I wonder what has happened

What happened is that militant sodomites browbeat the Psychological/Psychiatric establishment into redefining homosexual desire and behavior as not a mental illness.

People mock Freud but he was spot on in so many of his observations about society. The lose of taboos has not only created huge problems - but, weirdly, has also created a blandness at the heart of social life.

you are correct. any article that cites Sarah Ruden, Philip Rieff, and Charles Taylor has pretty well contended with the most important streams of thought on the issues at hand.

It is also a "Darwinian Dead-End"...
