Why can't 'The Bible' TV series get the Bible right?

With Ninja angels in ancient Sodom, the highly publicized TV miniseries "The Bible," which made its national debut Sunday night on the History Channel, does not always stick to Scripture, despite being produced by two famous Christians and having numerous biblical experts as well as Texas megapastor Joel Osteen advising on the project.

I have a question:

I am not a student of the bible. I had a very dear friend who was a student of the bible. He could quote book, verse and paragraph for any given situation or however that is expressed.

He claimed that there was a passage in the bible that stated that the black man would rule the world for 100 years.

Has anyone ever heard of that and, if so, is it true? If true then it appears that everyone else on the planet is making sure that it happens.

Or Star Wars, written with a religious theme.

Not an idea from the Bible.

Wrong. The Bible deals in FACTS.

I'll pose the same question to you that I posed earlier to another poster. At what point, at what crossed line would you begin criticizing such an unbiblical depiction? Do you think that Jesus Christ Superstar was an acceptable depiction because it was "cool" and may have lead someone to the truth? How about The Last Temptation of Christ? Do you find these depictions acceptable? Does subjectivity control your perception of the truth?

This movie is a very far distance from Jesus Christ Superstar or The Last Temptation of Christ. I didn't see either but heard about The Last Temptation of Christ which way crossed the line. In some respects this movie is likely closer to the traditions of the day than others.

Now I have a question to whom does the writes give the glory and praise to? I believe their efforts and obvious lots of works to be sincere. It does follow basic scripture reasonably close. I've seen several movies such as The Greatest Story Ever Told, The Passion Of Christ, Moses, The Ten Commandments, and one I liked called Gospel Road which Johnny Cash narrated. But nothing beats reading The Holy Bible though.

The angels in this movie were more realistic. Anyone who was paying attention would see them in a distance first then calling the person but not visible at first. I've read some threads where Ishmael is not portrayed in a bad light enough. Actually according to scripture Isaac and Ishmael buried their father Abraham together. The animosity was between Sarah and Hagar. An animosity created by Sarah jumping the gun and not trusting what GOD told Abraham.

"One side views God the same way as read in the bible the other side wants to change God into their own image. Look at the mega pastors and how they are changing the meaning of what is said in the bible. Rob Bell comes to mind."

That's right. And if you don't keep quiet about the obvious miscasting of Samson as a black African with dreadlocks, you must be a racist...or something.

The last straw for me was Roma Downey bragging about the "diverse" cast (diversity trumped Bible accuracy), and saying how much she "loves and respects" Obama, who is a fellow Christian.

LOL.....sure he is, lady.

They are not of European descent, usually. Just as white south africans are not of African descent, other than way way back! ;)

And that has what precisely to do with Sampson as a negro or Chinese angels or negroes with Abraham in Chaldea?

It’s ridiculous and it is a lie that stupid people will believe it

My brother-in-law is a true biblical scholar. He can quote chapter and verse. My wife and I are both Catholic and as such we get most of our exposure to the Bible through the Epistles and the Gospels at Mass. Brother-in-law and I were watching my photos on our TV. It stopped on a shot of Victoria Falls. My Mother-in-Law asked where that was. I told her and then commented that they were formed millions of years ago on the Zambezi River. My BIL made a buzzer-like sound, indicating that I was all wet as the world is only 6000 years old. That was the first I’d ever heard of that, and I’d been going to Mass for about 50 years. I told BIL that I’d had a year of geology in college and the professor said the world was 3.5 billion years old. He scoffed at that. I still don’t know where that appears in the Bible.

Why can't 'The Bible' TV series get the Bible right?

The bible according to who, you? Or the Protestants, the Methodists, the Catholics, the Baptists, the Lutherans, the Jehovah Witnesses, the Branch Davidians, etc, etc...........the list goes on.

I doubt that you use such language in all settings, and people do know what it means, that is why you don’t come out of the men’s room or lavatory and tell your daughter’s school teacher that you just took one, you probably also don’t tell her that you have to go to the Cra**er when you headed in that direction.
