Islam & Lds, Muhammad & Joseph Smith: Similarities (+ Lds ecumenical nods toward Islam) [Vanity]
Colofornian | July 31, 2012 | Colofornian

Posted on 07/31/2012 6:31:13 PM PDT by Colofornian

Per the Feb. 7, 2012 Pakistan Independent (see first link below), "The current LDS First Presidency Statement of 1978 says specifically mentions Prophet Muhammad as one of ‘the great religious leaders of the world’ who received ‘a portion of God’s light….’”

It would appear, therefore, that the Muslim world might be "happy" with either an Obama re-election or Mitt Romney. And, hey, why not? Just look at all the "ecumenical" outreach attempts with Islam made by Mormon leaders in the "ecumenical" link section listed below.

For these past seven years, over a dozen Freepers have been faithful in posting the 25 articles linked below...several of these written by Mormon writers/sources -- and one thread below posted by a Mormon.

Detailed Similarities 'Tween Islam & Lds; 'Tween Muhammad & Joseph Smith

* Mormonism: What the Latter Day Saints think of Islam [Indicator of how Mitt perceives Islam?] [Pakistan Independent thread]
* Mitt Romney: "Islam is not an inherently violent faith" [My Note: With this kind of lack of Romney foreign policy discernment, expect MORE Romney foreign policy boo-boos like his comments in the UK @ Olympics]
* Islamic And Mormonism Similarities: Similarities Between Joseph Smith and Muhammad (Written by Brother Andrew, a pioneer missionary leader to typically "closed" countries re: the gospel)
* Islamic And Mormonism Similarities (Same content posted a year later on FR)
* Common Threads between Islam and Mormonism (posted by Freeper poster Kaslin and written by one with an Egyptian heritage)
* Common Threads between Islam and Mormonism (same thread as above -- posted by another FREEPER)
* Mormons and Muslims? How do you all see each other? [Written @ BYU source]
* A Latter-day Saint Perspective on Muhammad Mormon-(OPEN) [Written by a BYU prof and posted in official Lds church publication]
* Thoughts on Islam,” in Mormons and Muslims: Spiritual Foundations and Modern Manifestations
* Muslims and Latter-day Saints Mormon (OPEN) [article from a recognized Lds site]
* Bridges of faith between Mormons and Muslims
* (LDS)L.D.S. perspective on Islam (this is an earlier -- 2005 --FR thread citing a BYU prof who's been deemed a "leader" among Lds apologists)

Mormons and Muslim 'ecumenicalism':

* Mormons, Muslims break the fast in Southern California (Mormon "interfaith outreach)
* Muslims and Mormons share worship space in St Charles
* A Message of Friendship: Muslims and Latter-Day Saints [from a recognized Lds apologetics Web site]
* BYU Hawaii’s First Non-Mormon Student President Credits Mormons for Making Him a Better Muslim
* Muslims attending BYU focus on similarities between Islam, LDS tenets
* Mormons, Muslims get along by creating books, not destroying them [LDS OPEN]
* Major Islamic art exhibit being installed at BYU [Utah Mormon University]
* 'Beauty and Belief' - Acclaimed Islamic art exhibit at BYU [Mormon]
* Latter-day Saint Perspective on Muhammad (LDS/Muslim Caucus) (This was posted by a Mormon and was written by a BYU prof)

Mormonism's 'ecumenicalism' with Muslim jihadists even extends after death!

* Revealed: Mormons Baptized 9/11 Hijacker, made several attempts to Baptize Mohammed
* MSNBC: MORMONS BAPTIZED 9/11 HIJACKER: Will Mainstream Media destroy Romney over his Religion?

Terrorist parallels

* Twin Sept. 11 tragedies created tides of religious intolerance
* Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith tangles with a quirk of Arkansas history [Washington Post thread]

I joined FR as a conservative first also. When I saw the constant proselytizing by the Mormons here, I decided it was time for me to speak up about what I knew based on my lifetime as a member of that organization. ... Then Milt entered the scene. ... I knew that Mormonism would be a huge detriment to his conservative support, I also suspected that his Mormonism would probably serve to make sure that obambi gets re-elected. I started ringing the warning bell as loud as I could, but Repubs chose Mitty anyway.

Since Mitt will secure the nomination by all accounts, I’ve backed off my posts on Mormonism for now. In my opinion it doesn’t help our cause. I personally don’t want to help Obummer secure the election, but I also don’t want Myth in the White House. I will write in Palin, or vote for Gary Johnson. It won’t make any difference, Mitt will carry Utah, and I get to make my protest vote.

FR is a pro-God (the one true Judeo-Christian God, of course), pro-life, pro-family, pro-small government, pro-liberty grassroots conservative site. Those who know me personally know that I do not object to Romney because of his religion. I object to him because of his thirty some odd year history of advocating for abortion and his solid pro-homo, pro-big government progressive statism. He is after all the author of and chief advocate of RomneyCare which morphed into ObamaCare and $50 taxpayer funded abortion and he also ordered same sex marriage to be the “law of the land” in Massachusetts just like his precious Roe v Wade became the “law of the land” even though neither were legislated or passed legally into law.

I don’t have any use for Mormonism and its false doctrines, but I have even less respect for the hypocritical liar, Myth Romney.

As far as PA Engineer is concerned he’s a long time loyal conservative member of Free Republic who has generously supported this site every quarter for many, many years. This is not his first freepathon challenge and hopefully it won’t be his last.

I hate to lose any loyal members, but I will never be swayed by demands or ultimatums. I reserve the right to stick to my guns on all conservative issues dear to my heart come hell or high water.

I absolutely loathe Obama and what he is doing to this country, but loathe Romney and what he has stood for during his entire history just as much. I will never trust that rat bastard and I will never vote for him or support him, even though I pray with all my heart that the usurping Marxist Barack Obama is sent packing by the American citizens.

I also think there may be something to the charges of spamming. No one likes spam and it doesn’t appear to be very effective anyway. That and the personal attacks from all sides on these threads are simply great turnoffs.

Thank you all very much for your participation, support and patience.

“You sadly are “false”, “wrong”, and in “error”. I came here because your posse was spamming many non-religious threads relating to Romney’s trip to Israel and Poland. Many longtime Freepers were becoming very disgusted. Heck, one of the posse spammed a thread fund raising post. I have added you to the posse list per your request. I have made the third donation as promised and probably will again tomorrow. I promise to continue to ping you to the fundraising thread. Let’s get it done.

Nothing previously was addressed to you, but you found it necessary to step in and make and ad hominem attack on me against the religious forum guidelines. If you ping me, I will be back.

Peace.”

And your post was not an attack on Freepers, some of whom are known contributors, on a topic that had nothing whatever to do with them? So you do the same thing you accuse them (us) of, and then whine about it? This is hypocrisy at its finest. Do not “peace” me. I’ll have no peace with someone who thinks it’s okay to attempt (however pitifully) to intimidate other posters simply because you have a misguided political reason for doing so. If you ping me, I’ll ping you back, Mittbot.

Just can’t give it up can you? Pinged me back again. That is OK. I have made my point about your posse. In fact I am heading over to the fund raising thread to continue to help FreeRepublic. When are you really going to make the sacrifice and do the same? If you believe in freedom then put your money where you mouth is. Otherwise cyber bullies are just talk and never walked the walk.

That’s really the problem here. You think this is a game where someone gives up and another wins. You can’t even defend your own actions or false accusations in a rational manner, and then you accuse others of what you are in fact doing. Just like a good lib!
