Great to hear from you.

LOL ref: The Dungeon Mistress . . . errrrr, I mean Rehab Therapist, is smokin’! If I was only 20 years younger . . .[sigh]

Nothing seems to keep you men from thinking along those lines. Glad to know the treatment hasn’t interfered. LOL

IMO - don’t listen to your brother. Get a second opinion if you can. Cancer is a sneaky bastard. He’ll creep right back in while your not looking. And, fast! Just cause the doctors “don’t know” doesn’t mean you need to accept it. If you’ve been under chemo you might be safe for the next three months while you wait, but I wouldn’t go longer than that. A lot can happen in 3 months.

Of course that is my opinion. I’ve lost loved ones to cancer so I’m nervous about it. So, until then I will continue to pray that “it” is banished from your body.

Best of luck.

UPDATE:

Wow, it has been a year! A lot has happened, most good, some . . . not so much. I will try to keep it short.

First off, I found out that within 3 months of my diagnosis, My sister-in-law, her brother, her brother-in-law, and my brother's long time friend all were diagnosed with some form of cancer. One passed away, one is getting chemo, and the rest are doing ok.

My last CT scan showed "No discernible changes". I now get scanned every 6 months, not 3. I have accepted that I will always need supplemental oxygen. Paying almost $200 a month to rent the equipment seemed exceptionally stupid, so I bought my own. Medicare was happy to rent it, but was not willing to help purchase it. Oh well, it still was the best $1400 I spent this year. I own it, and nobody can take it from me. Medicare can just shove the rental agreement up their collective 0bama!

I still have some constant pain. I understand it is from nerve damage during surgery. All things considered, it is better than the alternative.

I feel better than I have for a while. Enough that this year I am planting a veggie garden. Last year I was not up to it. My brother and I have also started remodeling the my late Parents home that I have been living in so it can be sold. I could stay here but I have a desire to move on in my life.

Today I read through this whole thread and looking back, I want to fill in a few things. After the surgery pain management was an issue. The surgery I had was one of the more painful ones they do so they did a spinal block during the surgical prep. That should have (and would have) handled the pain if the pump had been programed correctly. The hospital had switched to new IV pumps. The old pumps had 2 alarms, one when it ran out and another that could be set to another time. The new pump only had an alarm when it had pumped a set amount of stuff. The drug they were using was a controlled item so they had to account for darn near every drop. So they set the alarm to go off about an hour before it ran out to give them time to get a new IV from wherever. They were supposed to reset the pump to use up the remainder while the new bag was on order. Instead, they shut the pump off and ordered the new bag. Hospital Pharm. saw the bag was "used too soon" and held off on sending up the new one. Bottom line was I was without any for 2 hours every IV. By the time I caught up and was starting to feel half decent, it ran out again and I was without for another 2 hours. After 2 days of this I complained to my Surgeon and that day it was fixed.

The chasing Nurses thing was kind of funny. I first made that wisecrack to amom while I was very doped up. What she did not know was that my Nurse was in the room at the time filling out my chart. ===>He<=== looked over at me and said "Don't even think about it!" along with that 1000 yard stare . . . LOL!!!

Bottom Line:

I think I am doing OK. "No discernible changes" is not an "ALL CLEAR", but it's close. I'm alive. I'm somewhat active. And I'm looking forward to lots of good things in the future.

Thank you for the update. So glad to hear that things are going well. (Sorry about the pain though. Sorry that you lost some people you know to cancer, too.)

Good luck with your future move! Moving is stressful, even when it’s something you want to do, so take it easy. You don’t want to overdo things and adversely affect your improving health. (I moved in March. It wasn’t easy even though it was a welcome change.)

P.S. I envy the veggie garden! (I’m trying to talk my daughter into picking up some herb plants for me to go in planters in the courtyard. I’m thinking I may try growing some on my window sill, too. I get good light in this apartment.)

Thanks for the update. Keep up the good fight. I am also a cancer survivor. Many in my immediate family have also been fighting this dreaded disease. All but one with good with good results. Ten years for me.

God bless you and many more prayers for you.

I am in remission two years after being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. There are a few cancerous cells but not enough to worry about according to my oncologist.

Medicare is willing to pay $1200 per dialysis session but not 3000 for a dialysis machine. What the...

I hope your good news continues. FReeper prayers are the best!!

Wow...a year already! Thanks for the good news update (for the most part). No discernible changes is not to bad at all.
Great news about the veggie garden...that’ll keep you outta mischief somewhat. You’ll have to keep us updated re the garden and the scans. Keep up the good work.

“No discernible changes” sounds pretty darn good, considering what you’ve been through.

My husband had surgery several years ago and also suffered from nerve damage. He was in quite a bit of pain for several months but then it just went away. Hope yours ends quickly.

Thanks for the update and may God bless you with continuing good health reports.
