The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.
Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |

If the guy put on a uniform and carried a gun he's a legitimate target.Whose rules are these?
That would be the "United States of America"
Perhaps you've heard of it?

That was in the Bible, perhaps you've heard of it.

Clever. But your point is???
That it's now OK to feed children to bears if they make fun of my thinning hair?
That any behavior you can find in the OT is now ethical?
That the helicopter pilot was left-handed?
God is allowed to do quite a few things that we are not. I don't think anyone has claimed that God ordered the killing in this case.

ignorant of the promises made to Abraham regarding the land, admonishing poor Mack for "abortion of Scripture"?
Here is the land promised to Abraham.
Heb 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he lived as an alien IN THE LAND OF PROMISE, as in a foreign land, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise; 10 for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. ....13 All these died in faith, without receiving the promises, but having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, and having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. 14 For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own. 15 And indeed if they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return. ....
Heb 12:22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels, 23 to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the Judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,
If I need to explain this and what the real land of promise to Israel is, you need to read your Bible more.
God Bless,
Nate

Am I the only one having trouble with Free Republic today? No. Their provider unplugged their DNS registration for some unknown reason. It may still be hours until it is back to normal.
But John Rob has fixed the code to allow us to login by bypassing their "www.freerepublic.com" with the number "209.157.64.200"

NR article about Israel's actions.
By now it is no secret that Europe views the situation differently. Leaving aside the Old World's growing consensus that the war on terror should be treated as a criminal law-enforcement matter a recipe for disaster and defeat most European states have accepted the 1977 Protocol I Additional to the Geneva Conventions. Like the 1949 Geneva Conventions (to which both the United States and Israel are parties), this instrument preserved the classification of unlawful combatant. But it also can be interpreted to provide new and extraordinarily beneficial advantages to such groups. In particular, under one of Protocol I's provisions, irregular or guerilla fighters can arguably be attacked only when they are themselves attacking. At all other times, they must be treated as part of the civilian population.
Explains, to some extent, the "European" position and how it differs from the American/Israeli position.

According to the above a Palestinian terrorist could feign handicap, be wheeled into an Israeli restaurant, whip out a machine gun, kill dozens of people, then quickly be wheeled right back out or leave of his own accord, blending into the 'civilian population', and be treated as part of the civilian population since the attack would be done.

Wow, that's quite a loop hole! Indeed. Remarkably stupid, if you ask me. But it certainly explains the European position. If they think this is the "law" then they would see something "illegal" in Israel's actions.

That's a bit strong. I'm not defending the position, just showing a reason for it.

I can't say if anti-Jewish sentiment was a reason for the modifcations to the Geneva Convention. But there is no doubt that such sentiment is growing and disturbing in Europe today.
I just thought it interesting that they had codified their willingness to be victimized, or to allow others to be victimized. I didn't know they had done such a thing. Now I do.
