A PHENOMENAL CAREER SUICIDE [Rod Dreher]
This Dixie Chicks thing is getting very, very serious for the group. Mind you, I'm not a big one for boycotts; if I threw away CDs of artists whose politics I couldn't stand off my shelf, there'd be very little left to listen to (a reader wrote to say she'd taken her child to hear the great kids' musician Dan Zanes play recently, and he shared his anti-war politics with preschoolers. Asinine!). However, I completely understand country fans wanting to rebuke severely the Dixie Chicks for that disgraceful comment Natalie Maines made on foreign soil. This thing is turning into something huge. Read what reader Dave in Georgia wrote to me this morning:
Here in the Red Zone, the imminent demise of the Dixie Chicks is a topic of everyday discussion, not just a Internet thing. And every country radio DJ is being forced to take a stand. I came home yesterday, and my wife asked me if she was supposed to take her CDs to the radio station, or if I knew where she was supposed to mail them. Radio call-ins range for tearful pleas to pray for the Chicks, to heavily bleeped suggestion for new names for the group.
This thing is turning into a phenomenal case of career suicide. What on earth could Natalie Maines have been thinking, saying such an idiotic thing, given her fan base? Can anybody think of a similar case of a popular performer collapsing professionally virtually overnight because of something he or she said?

A new kind of Freep? Ive been over at Amazon and Barnes and Noble this evening writing one-star reviews on all Monkey Chicks CDs. Below is what Ive been putting in. Takes a couple of days to show up, but its a slow morning. Worked well for Al Gores recent published masterpieces. Really upsets the natives. Have fun!
Dixie pork rind Chicks are not Country Artists
The Dixie Chicks and especially lead singer Natalie Maines are not country music artists. They are shallow anti-American trained monkeys. I'm throwing this CD and all other pork rind music in the trash can today. I will never purchase another CD from these fat low talent loudmouths again.

Hey, words have consequences...
Remember "Read my Lips, no new taxes..." ?
And their lives are not in ruin. That's a bit melodramatic. This will prove to be a very valuable learning experience for them in the end. They'll have a few bad months and lose several million dollars and then this will pretty much fade away. They won't starve - there's enough Bush Haters out here to sustain them.

2 things come to mind:
1. Natalie Maines father was not Henry Fonda
2. The fan base is the difference here. If she was a rock singer this would have been old news.

Jackson is broke If so, good. Maybe Paul McCartney can buy his song list back. It always bugged me that Jackson outbid McCartney for the rights to most of the early Lennon-McCartney songs when the studio put them up for auction. Left McCartney in the position of having to pay royalties to perform some of his own stuff.

It's a shame about the Chicks, but maybe they will serve as an example for other "artists" who may be inclined to lend their support to the enemies of the United States.

Actually, I think Sony is going to end up buying Jackson's half of the Beatles. That's the reason behind Jackson's temper tantrum last year accusing Sony of racism. He's trying to up the price Sony pays him.

The worst part about that was that Paul tipped McWacko off (insoder trading) about the sale when they recorded that song together (the name escapes me). Paul has hated him ever since!

These girls are having their career destroyed because they made a remark about the President. What are you going to do if one of them commits suicide as a result? Will it weigh on your conscience?
How would you like your Koolaid Mz. Maines?

No, don't. Instead.
a. Sell it on eBay and send the money to your favorite cause.
b. Donate it to a charity and take the tax deduction.
Donate the deduction to some useful cause.
In either case, send a note to the artist, and tell
them where the money went. It not only boosts some
cause they hate, it likely costs them a sale of a
new recording.
When you burn/shred/toss your CDs (DVDs, VHS, whatever),
it's just YOUR asset going up in smoke. Don't punish
YOURSELF for some artist's idiocy.

Vichy Chicks I think sums it up perfect. But I shall let all FReepers decide. It does speak volumes about their character.

DUpers and other anti-American knuckleheads are mounting a modest pro-Chix comback at this
poll.
Let's keep the Chix' negatives above 95 percent.

Use it in the bottom of a bird cage and mail it back to the record label after appropriate usage.

Uh...that would be Michael Jackson
See www.steveharvey.com for the article detailing the background of the extortion that led to this widespread perception of Jackson.
