. Or, is there a story about locked exits in the Rhode Island fire now?No, there's no such story, just that poster's imagination. I saw the Fire Chief interviewed this morning, he said they had just passed an inspection as of the end of 2002. Said there had been a few minor infractions that had been corrected.

You're not the only one who heard it was a "refinery fire." We're all getting a little bit freaky here, including FOX.
You reported correctly.

Looks like this week the media are coverning fires. What will it be next week? Scott Peterson: The College Years

I have been to the Filmore hall in Denver, and it really looked a lot like this place that went up today.
I didn't think of fire then, but the place would've gone up quickly. Unfortunately, human bodies act as a fuel in fire which could've accelerated this.
I'm just kinda wondering out loud if it is possible that something weird was going on here, beyond the obvious.

The terrorists have an incentive for making their acts unmistakable and unhidable. Very true. There is the possibilty that our defenses have kept them from being able to pull-off such a spectacular event, thus they may target less "sexy" targets since that's what they can currently manage.

Oh........ and one more thing. I'm guessing there was no sprinkler system in this building.

Exits were not locked. Appeared to be clearly marked (but there was so much thick black smoke within about 2 minutes, you couldn't have seen them). The exit hardware had been replaced on one door in Dec. and all were reported to be in good working condition after that.
The only problem with the doors was one report that the bouncers at first didn't understand what was going on and were trying to keep people from using the emergency exits--they were reportedly trying to push the crowd back at first.

Thank you.

.....excuse me, do you think all terrorists are Mid-eastern? or Al Qaeda? It's called a joke, dude. But since you're so concerned that I am multiculturally correct, I'll re-write it so you won't be offended:
I really don't think that Al Qaeda, Islamic Jihad, Hamas, Al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya, Harakat ul-Mujahidin, Hizballah, the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, Kahane Chai, the IRA, Shining Path, Aum Shinrikyo, the Japanese Red Army, the Kurdistan Workers' Party, National Liberation Army of Colombia, FARC, Revolutionary People's Struggle, the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement, the Tamil Tigers, ETA, Earth Liberation Front, the New Black Panthers, or Aryan Nations figured out how to infiltrate an over-the-hill rock band to torch a third-rate roadhouse.
Is that better?

What gives? Nothing at all, IMO. It's just a matter of statistics. (And as Rush pointed out today, the media gives more coverage to these sorts of incidents when fears of terrorism are high.)
I don't think we will see miscellaneous terrorist attacks until we hit Iraq. (The terrorists will want the linkage to be clear--so their friends in the Democratic Party will be able to say "See, I told you so!".)
