The Bottom Line On Iraq And The U.N.
2-15-03 | Jonathan M. Stein

Here is the bottom line with Iraq; this is what it all boils down to. Countries like France and Germany -- besides having many lucrative, sweetheart financial deals with Iraq that a war would cost them -- do not understand how Saddam thinks, i.e. they think that he can be reasoned with; he can't -- he's a madman (read any biography of the man to see how truly twisted he is).

On the other hand, he, i.e. Saddam, understands how the leaders and diplomats from countries like France and Germany think -- all too well. He understands that they -- because of their financial interests and liberal philosophical bend -- will turn a blind eye and use any excuse to avoid a confrontation with Saddam. He uses this to his advantage. Saddam understands that he can violate any resolution the U.N. comes up with left and right, as long as he throws the inspectors a bone once in a while. He understands that doing so, no matter how small the bone, will tie the U.N. security counsel in knots, rendering it inneffective and neutralized. The French, Germans, and others will point to the bone Saddam threw them, call it progress, and avoid confrontation. And Saddam will watch and laugh as he watches it unfold on CNN, because he has mastered this game; they -- France, Germany, et al -- are the fools.

All the while, as the U.N. is busy bickering, Saddam is free to build his arsenal and hatch evil plots to kill innocent people. He doesn't really have a coherent agenda per se, he is just insane. And, you can bet that if he gets a nuclear weapon, he WILL use it. . . for fun.

This is nothing new. Hitler used the same tactics. The only problem is, Saddam is even crazier than Hitler ever was.

Reasonable dissent may be patriotic, but unreasonable dissent is suicide. This is not the 60s, though some loons on the left would like it to be, and this is not Vietnam. This is not about nostolgia for hippies, sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll and other nonsense. This is about the safety and security of millions; this is about a confrontation with a clear objective; and this is about making sure that a certifiable madman doesn't get his hands on weapons that WILL kill MILLIONS. This is not a matter of if, but it is a matter of when -- and the clock is ticking.

Bottom line on Iraq ... Bring down the tyrant and then quickly leave it in the Iraqi people's hands.

Bottom line on the U.N. ... Get the UN out of the US and vice-versa, now!

Overall foreign policy?

... Make it a national commitment and ramp the nation up to be totally energy independent by the year 2010 ... it could be done. At the same time, stop moving all of our production offshore, particularly not to China.

The act of becoming energy self sufficient alone would relieve us of half, or more, of our foreign policy entanglements ... after we shed ourtselves of the U.N.

Stopping feeding China's economic, production and military machine will possibly avert a coming World War, IMHO.

Best Fregards, Jeff

To me this is so obvious. Sadaam said they didn't have any WMD - however, only weeks later he was threatening to harm the U.S. military if they should attack, using chemical or bio warfare - the very things he had just declared he didn't have.

If you logically think about that statement, you cannot even come close to believing you are dealing with someone who thinks sanely.

The saddest and scariest part of all of this, though, is watching the media and the anti-war nuts play right into Saddam's hands. It very much reminds my of the movie "ID4: Independence Day” when the “pro alien” crowd was partying foolishly on the roof a L.A. building as the death-ray apparatus under the space ship slowly opened up above them; eventually, all the partiers were killed by their own foolishness, while the truly enlightened band of bold, freedom-loving citizens, led by the fictional President, stood up to, and ultimately conquered, a seemingly indefinable and insurmountable threat.

These anti-war fools are sowing the seeds of their own destruction, and the media is doing the American people a tremendous disservice by playing into Saddam’s hand. Instead of questioning SADDAM’s credibility, they, the media, are instead questioning the credibility of the only people who understand the true nature of the threat Saddam poses and who are trying to protect them from it. They are poor, sad fools allowing themselves to be manipulated by the Butcher of Baghdad.

Like the fools on the roof in ID4, the anti-war crowd and the media are committing suicide.

Then, of course, Fox News refuses to tow the line, swallow the Iraqi BS, and report what Iraq wants them to report. So, what happens? Iraq kicks them out. Anyone who cannot clearly see what is going on here is involuntarily or voluntarily blind.

Yeah, I remember that scene - it was very revealing.

I have just been heartsick all day over this betrayal at the UN. Because of this, I'm confident the push to get us out of the UN will be ramped up. I never thought I would agree, but we do need to get out of this organization before they destroy us.

Besides, NY could use the office space!!

And Saddam will watch and laugh as he watches it unfold on CNN, because he has mastered this game

The American people are the victims, as CNN and most media outlets portray the Security Council as a sacrosanct temple of wisdom and peace, when it is merely a club for international whores, theives and butchers. The "No blood for oil" groups screaming on Saturday in Europe are supporting thei own corrupt regimes who are countenancing exactly that...the continued blood of the Iraqi people in order to further the oil interests of Elf Aquitaine, among others.

And the Susan Sarandon lunacy which receives such glowing coverage in the media asserts that Iraq "did not attack us" (and "had nothing to do with 9/11") and therefore we have no right to invade...ignoring the most obvious hypocrisy...that their logic would have justified doing nothing against Nazi Germany--which also "did not attack us" (and "had nothing to do with Pearl Harbor").

Allowing the torture, subjugation and murder of the Iraqi people in order to prevent a few hundred or even thousand Iraqi civilians dying during the battle for their liberation is to justify the Holocaust and asserting we were wrong to bomb Berlin and kill thousands of Germans.

Note here that George W. Bush is not among those named, and I believe it is telling. Bush is a consummate strategic thinker. I would hate to be playing poker or chess with him for any sizeable pot...
