Rescue Iraqi People From Evil Dictator

(Not my title, by the way, the editors gave me a wimpy title)

Published on 2/6/2003

Letters To The Editor:

In response to The Day's Jan. 28 article “At Conn, a peaceful debate about war and peace,” I would like to mention a few things The Day “forgot” to mention. These forgotten points make clearer why military action against Iraq is necessary for our security and the safety of Iraq's citizens.

The case for Iraq does not revolve solely on the issue of weapons of mass destruction, as most of the media paints it. There are other reasons for going to war with Iraq. Let me state them in a simple way:

1. Iraq, under Saddam Hussein, is a repressive dictatorship which tortures its citizens, imprisons its opponents and starves them. Saddam Hussein, through his secret police apparatus, rules with a bloody iron fist.

2. Iraq, under Saddam Hussein, is a terrorist state. It is a state which exports and harbors terrorism. It is a state which gives the families of Palestinian suicide terrorist bombers $25,000. It is one of the states that put the “Terror” into the “Terrortories.” It is a state that harbors numerous terrorist groups which threaten countries such as the U.S. and Israel.

3. Iraq, under Saddam Hussein, starves its citizens. They are malnourished and diseased. Instead of using the sanctions to give his people food and medicine, he uses the money for his family and army. One must also note that this was occurring before the sanctions were placed on, when Saddam Hussein had less money. Iraq is in need of humanitarian liberation.

4. And then there is the issue of weapons of mass destruction. Saddam has always pursued these weapons. He is the only one who has used them on his own people. He has been hiding them from inspectors. They are a threat to the stability and security of the region.

There are many who say that the threat is not imminent, and therefore we do not need to go to war with Iraq. But as President George W. Bush said in his State of the Union Speech, since when do terrorists and tyrants tell us when they are coming?

Inspections are not the answer. Removing Saddam Hussein and his terrorist infrastructure are. He is a ticking time bomb. We should not leave our national security up to the responsibility of an organization that has failed in the Middle East and an organization with a history of failing to act quickly.

The threat is here, the threat is now. Saddam Hussein has a history of threats and a history of evil. We must rid the world of this evil and we must liberate his people.

Nice work Yoni - one other thing that comes to mind is how women are treated - not just in Iraq, but in all Arab countries. One of the great results of liberating Iraq is to see women free to go in public and girls get to attend school.

However I don't think these rational arguments would get through to the womyn's movement; American women that think Clinton the rapist is a great president are in such serious delusion I'm afraid there's no hope for them. But rational, independent (conservative) women would certainly consider this an important point.

I'm glad your letter got published!

Great letter!! And you are right on target with your analysis of the situation. It's a shame there aren't more people who see the truth about this madman in Iraq. I hope your letter opens some eyes.

I can just see the dim bulb campus leftists goggling at it without comprehension.

Yea! And they published it! Wow! Very clearly expressed. Very good. More people need to write letters like that. May I borrow a few ideas?

For being so young, you certainly are well informed about the issues - I applaud you and hopefully your radio show helps other young people sort out the truth of this situation. Thanks!!

Good letter and congratulations on its being printed, but as an American, points one and two are irrelevent.

Inspections are not the answer. Removing Saddam Hussein and his terrorist infrastructure are. He is a ticking time bomb. We should not leave our national security up to the responsibility of an organization that has failed in the Middle East and an organization with a history of failing to act quickly.

Unfortunately, Bush put resuscitating the UN above American security. Now, we have to live with that decision.

Remember, it was Clinton who made "inspections" meaningless. Inspections under Bush have new meaning. This is the difference between "inspections" then and now.

How is point 2 irrelevant? Iraq harbors terrorist groups who plan attacks on American interests and terrorist groups opposed to American freedom.
