Commentary - Seeing freak as normal

By Patricio P. Diaz

WHEN the freak becomes normal, the world turns upside down. That was what the gay activists wanted to happen when they protested against the Catholic Church’s traditional Christian family as composed of married couples with children. Reported as “gay activists,” the protesters were not only gays but feminists — members of the Democratic Socialist Women of the Philippines, Women’s Media Circle, Women’s Legal Bureau, and other organizations under the Reproductive Health Advocacy Network.

At the Fourth World Meeting of Families, January 22-26 in Manila, the Church invited only the traditional Christian families. The “activists” wanted the Church to change Her concept of the family to recognize “other faces” of the Filipino family, also to be invited.

As gleaned from the newspaper report, there are three categories of these “other faces” of the Filipino family:

First, the no-parent family. This may be composed of children abandoned by their parents — by death or plain abandonment — and living under the care of the eldest or of any relative.

Second, the single-parent family. This may be composed of children under the care of either parent due to the death of one or to separation. Or, the single parent, the mother, is unwed.

Third, “same sex partners” family. Two gays or two lesbians living together and who have adopted child or children.

In the name of Christian charity, the Church should seriously consider cases falling under the first and second categories. They came to being under circumstances beyond their control — especially the children’s.

Of the third category, gays and lesbians deserve understanding and charity for their being so which is beyond their control. But not for trying to undo social mores and institutions. The Church should have an answer to their quest to change the concept of the traditional Christian family for their sake.

Issues

The activists have taken issue against the concept of the traditional Christian family as the “idealized” concept which, they say, is fast becoming a myth. By appealing for acceptance, the gays are taking issue with their own families, the government, and the Church for discriminating against them.

The activists are taking issue with society in general for discriminating against families outside the Church’s definition, mindless of the fact that 48 percent of Filipino families are non-traditional.

They are also taking issue with the Constitution for having the same concept of the “exclusive” family as the Church’s — considering the other types of “families” as abnormal with less protection in law.

Fallacies

The concept of the traditional Christian family is patterned after the Holy Family — Joseph, Mary, and Jesus. The Holy Family is the ideal family. But the traditional Christian family is not “idealized.” The “father,” “mother,” and “children” are the essential, not the ideal, component of the family. Without these essential components, there is no family.

A family comes from the heterosexual union, or marriage, of man and woman. The purpose of that union or marriage is to beget children. Without children, the married couple cannot be a family.

Under this nature of the family, a single parent or a separated parent with a child or children can claim to be a family, for there was heterosexual union or marriage although, perhaps, not a sacramental marriage that the Catholic marriage is.

Under the same premise, “same sex” partners have no claim whatsoever to be a family. From the start, their union is not capable of begetting children — the intention being not to have children or a family in its essential meaning. Hence, gays and lesbians cannot claim to be having a family even if they adopt children.

In fairness to all, let there be a distinction between a family and a household. Husband and wife with their children are both a family and a household. Others, if not essentially a family, are only a household.

Myth

“Myth” as used by the activists could either mean (1) unfounded or false notion, or, (2) a person or thing having an imaginary or unverifiable existence.

Contrary to the activists’ claims, the traditional Christian family is not becoming a myth. It’s continuing to be strong. There are family break-ups. In centuries past, there were break-ups. But the family, as an institution, has remained — and will remain - strong.

The real myth is the claim that the traditional Christian family is becoming a myth. That is not the reality. Where did they get the claim that 48 percent of the Filipino families today are non-traditional?

Unverifiable. Just the idea and imagination of the activists to justify their position.

Discriminated?

Discrimination is the feeling of gays. The public attitude which gays call discrimination is being brought about by their own behavior. Why can’t they live as they are?

Gays should be admired for being skillful, imaginative, and creative beauticians or fashion designers. But they expose themselves to ridicule by — many of them — wearing padded bras, jewelry, high-heeled shoes, or even skirts.

And some live as couples and they want their union to be blessed or legalized as marriage. To be a gay is to be born a man with feminine physical traits. For a gay, to be feminine is normal.

But to impress society that he is a woman invites ridicule. And to tell the world that gays can be both man and woman and so one gay can be a husband and the other a wife is scandalous.

Respect society

Back in the 1950s and earlier, there were gays. People accepted them as they were. They looked effeminate but they did man’s work. I had a high-school classmate we called “Inday.” Yet, he did harder work in the farm than did the macho-looking in our class.

The present breed of gays is of a later generation. Society respected them and continued to respect them until they asserted their being a third sex and tried to undo social mores and institutions. If they now feel discriminated against, they brought it unto themselves.

Respect is not a one-way affair. If by one’s behavior, he or she disrespects or offends society, society will lose its respect on that person. That same is true to groups or persons.

As to the traditional Christian family treasured by the Catholic Church, that, too, must be respected.

The typical gay agenda. You MUST respect my feelings but to hell with yours.
And also, reality is only MY reality. Yours is never right unless it agrees with mine.

Commentary - Seeing freak as normal

It's called "Bizzarro World", and I actually live there. It is only thorugh some sort of time/space warp that I'm able to actually post to FreeRepublic.

My world is so strange and unusual that we give criminals rights and persecute their victims!

In Bizzarro World if a doctor terminates the life of a baby one second before the baby is born we don't call it murder.

In Bizzarro World the president of the US has been known to receive oral sex while diplomats patiently waited outside the door to conduct business.

In Bizzarro World our response to being attacked by terrorists is to decimate our own freedoms.

You should celebrate every day that you live in the normal world, and not in this strange madhouse to which I open my eyes each morning!

And let's not forget that in Bizzaro world people say we either a: attacked ourselves or b: deserved it, and more oddly still is c: all of the above.

It is, indeed, a bizzaro world.

Outstanding distinction.

Liberals use language to tremendous effect. Defining a problem to put those who would use children to sate the insatiable is half the battle.

Oops... grammar-glarp. Shoulda been:

My apologies to the forum.

That's ok, I just woke up and it made sense to me :)

Sadly I had dream I was helping a cop look for evidence but I had to leave and go to work in the dream, then I woke up thinking I had to go to work - which I do, but I don't have to leave (or wake) for about another three hours. ARRRGH.
