[history]
Republican John Thune threw in the towel on his South Dakota Senate race yesterday, notwithstanding the suspicious circumstances under which he lost by a mere 524 votes. We think that at a minimum he owed his many supporters a recount.

As my mother used to say, "That makes me so mad I could spit!"
Let's just pray that justice will be served!

Strategery, strategery. While the DemoRats think they're getting one last pass, the larger noose around all 'Rat behavior is being drawn.....
I hope.

I don't understand why Thune gave up so easily....even if he didn't want a recount; there should be an investigation into voter fraud.

bump for the ethically challenged DemoRATS

Senator-elect Red Earth Johnson.

If I lived in SD, and had voted for Thune, I would be HOPPING MAD! This is the appreciation he showed to those who voted for him by throwing in the towel! I hope those that voted for him will NEVER cast another vote for him next time around! THIS REALLY STINKS!

WOW...take that Johnson! See what the home folks think of you!

I'm thinking you are correct. There is something that tells me a surprise is waiting for these liars, cheats and thiefs (aka democrats) during the 04 elections.

And why is it republicans are called the "stupid party"? David Horowitz has exasperated on this point for years.
First Thune's surrender, then Lott's, now Orrin Hatch giving Adolf Leahy an unprecedented 50% on Judiciary Committee resources.
Unless we the activists, who won the election for the GOP, take control, this "majority" will not last long.

This is the number one issue of our times. Bigger than terrorism.
If the RATS can destroy Democracy in America, not much else matters.
If we LET the RATS destroy Democracy in America by our inaction, we are effectively rats ourselves.
Shame on Thune. Shame on the Republicans. Shame on us.

I don't understand why Thune gave up so easily....even if he didn't want a recount; there should be an investigation into voter fraud.
If I were to make a guess as to why he didn't go the recount route, I would say it is most likely so he could avoid the disgusting stench of a Florida 2000-type recount. Chances are, the recount would still show Johnson the winner, since the votes probably ARE there, just not necessarily cast properly. In that case, Thune would look like the big whiner as Gore did. After all the complaints about Gore being a cry-baby, I would guess Thune would prefer to avoid that and wait for his next chance.
I would like to think, though, that had the Republicans needed one more seat in the Senate, that Thune would then have pushed much more heavily for a full recount and investigation. As it stands, I think an investigation is still in order, but conceding the election while the Republicans hold the Senate majority avoids tarnishing the party image. Perhaps in the long run, it is the politically smarter thing to do.

You are sooooo smart & wise. The next time I am involved in a race I'll hire you & your wisdom for MY opponent. As far as Thune is concerned I would have voted for him. Next time NO NO NO! I'm looking for a fighter, not a wimp-out. (suppose I owned land dispute with a border state & Thune was my civil servant. would I hear him saying to just forget it. No need to cause any commotion)

If I had spent over a year campaigning, and millions of OTHER PEOPLES MONEY, I wouldn't give up so easy. No one would blame him for 1 recount. It's when the Dem's want 5 and still loose and then take it to court that people start to smell stench. I would be a little angry if I donated money to his campaign and he just walked off from it. 1 recount wouldn't hurt him.

I assume the FBI are still there investigating and we have to trust they will handle this in a way that gets all the people who broke the law--no matter how high this goes. We have statistics that make any thinking person suspect what happened--but it has got to be proven in a courtroom now.
I am not going to blame Thune because the fraud involved couldn't be proven in time for him to do something about it. I never thought a recount would change things--let the investigators do their job and have faith in them to do it well until proven otherwise. In 2004 we will be watching, the new voting laws just signed by Bush will force them to show I.D. and clean up voter rolls, and there will be fewer people willing to cheat for them after they see their buddies go to jail.

IF ANY 3 CITIZENS IN A PRECINCT CAN CALL FOR A RECOUNT--WHY DON'T FREEPERS OR OTHER ETHICAL PEOPLE DO SO!!!

I agree. We need to use this opportunity, maybe our last if we don't act, to get anti-voter fraud (i.e. anti-rat) legislation passed. Let the rats go on record as opposing measures to keep felons and illegal aliens to vote. That along with their opposing W's tax cuts will surely lead to their further collapse. Only one thing could help the rats: the new gonad-less, might-as-well-wear-a-dress, "I believe in power sharing", wuss Senate Majority "Leader" Lott.
