WHAT DEMS DON'T GET

I read after the election that you felt the Democratic Party has lost its way and needs to reconnect with voters. As a friendly Republican who believes in the two-party system, I'd like to proffer some advice.

Interestingly enough, I used to be a Democrat myself. I went to Mississippi in 1964, protested the Vietnam War, campaigned for McGovern and generally felt myself to be part of the Sixties generation. Yet, by 1982, I was a dissenter on environmentalism, an enthusiast for free enterprise and more and more fed up with the Democratic agenda.

Why are the Republicans not even discussing the idea
of reducing the size of Government in anyway?
They control both both chambers of Congress and
the White House. Budget items are not subject
to filibusters.
So Bush can reduce the size of Government now
if he wants to. His agenda is only about making
government bigger.
The American Trial Lawyers are the biggest threat to freedom? Total nonsense.
The biggest threat to freedom is our massive Government!
The Republicans are only making it bigger.

As I understand it, the Budget Bill is not subject to filibuster, but all the appropriation bills which impliment it are. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You obviously do not own a business.

Lawyers use the government to create more rules and regs. to make business more difficult. And who do you have to have to muddle through this crap---suprise, A LAWYER

The time is not right for GWB to pull out the big time budget axe. Let him take care of Saddammnn, make the tax cuts permanent, maybe cut them some more, get a start on tort reform, and then make reducing the size of government THE issue in 2004.The economy will be much better, the Rats will have nominated a loser, we should pick up seats in Congress, and he will then have a mandate.

I sure hope they are, but the Bush SOP seems to be a slower process then most of us would like. He seems to be patient and deliberate, and cautious--more so then I--or probably the average Freeper could be.

The lawyers are the foot soldiers of our big government. Think about how the two go hand-in-hand.

Harry Truman used to say the only thing new under the son is the history You don't know. A president can only make small gradual changes and stay in office while holding the congress. If either party makes big changes they will be defeated a the next election and the change undone. Often they fail to even pass major change with all branches of government.

A typical case occured in 1992. Bill Clinton came to office with the HOUSE, the SENATE and the PRESIDENCY. It was LIBERAL HEAVEN and he was only wondering what to call his NEW DEAL or GREAT SOCIETY.

So among the first things Bill tried to do was liberate GAYS in the military. It did not give him a clue. Then He tried to Socialize 14 percent of our economy with HILLARY CARE.The Result was the Democrats suffered a major defeat in 1994. He could not even get HILLARY care through the congress with the DEMOCRATS in total control of both houses in 1993. Clinton found out like every post depression president, that attempts to make big changes only backfire and blow up in his face.

If Bush were as STUPID as many of the posters here on FR he would try to move the nation as far right as fast as CLINTON tried to move it LEFT in 1992. It would have the same result.

FAILURE with a capital F.

Why is the time not right to reduce government at all?
Tort reform? You mean violating the constitution
by having the Federal government take away
state rights in order to protect Big Business.

Correct, This is a war you have to define your target and go after them IN THE CORRECT ORDER, to win. Your list is the correct one. I would add to it: Tax Reform (FLAT TAX or NRST, if the 16th amendment is repealed), and maybe a SS system that looks more like the federal retirement system.

There is no magic wand in fixing this. It is going to be a slow process.

Why? The electorate.

Let that marinate.

No mercy.

WE sure need more of those classless action law suits. They really put a lot of people to work. How about putting some sanity back into the legal system and institute LOSER PAYS?
