These stupid pop-up ads are really getting bad. I just had to click through at least 10 of them. They are very annoying. Is there some sort of program or something that we can do to prevent this? Thank you. Take care and God bless.

Use Opera as your browser. It has a pop-up stopper that really works. It's also faster than IE or Netscape.

Panicware.com has a free popup stopper. Works pretty well, although a few are finding their way "around" it. There are others, as well, and I'm sure someone will post those.

I have been using Pop-Up Stopper with 95% success. Try panicware.com - a free download. A few pop-ups get through, but very few. I just wish I could get my computer to make a little screaming sound whenever Pop-Up Stopper nails one for me...Yeah, that's the ticket.

What is the system overhead for the stopper? I have so little system memory and hard drive space left that I'm afraid to download anything.

Sorry, but don't have that info handy. You might try opening the link and having a look around - I'm assuming the info would be there somewhere.

Use the Java or Non-Java version?

Turn off active scripting in your browser security preferences.
Turn off the Iframe, Activex, and installation of desktop items while you're in there too.

Use Mozilla
http://www.mozilla.org/ as your browser for most of your browsing. Select "Edit" "Preferences" "Advanced" "Scripts and Plugins" and uncheck the box "Open Unrequested Windows".
Back this up with Panicware's Pop-up Stopper (Free for personal use)
http://www.panicware.com/popupstopper.html
As an added bonus, the Mozilla will give you excellent cookie control.
While you are at it, don't forget to use Ad-Aware
http://www.lavasoft.de/ to knock out spyware.

Try www.popupbegone.com. It is really cheap and very effective on Microsoft Explorer. Some do get thru, but when they do, they are left on the screen when you get off, not while you are surfing.

You can download Netscape 7.0 from Netscape.com. After you have done that, read this: http://www.mozilla.org/start/1.0/faq/general.html#1.5
After you have read that, you will understand what the prefs.js file is. You can then add the following line somewhere in prefs.js: user_pref("dom.disable_open_during_load", true);
The will prevent all those pop ups that happen when you open a new page such as the Drudge Report.
The other pop up stoppers require you to go thorugh a proxy which filters out the popups. This way just tells your browser to not obey the popup command.
You can also add the following lines to prevent web sites form closing, moving and resizing windows:
user_pref("dom.disable_window_flip", true);
user_pref("dom.disable_window_move_resize", true);
user_pref("dom.disable_window_open_feature.status", true);
user_pref("dom.disable_window_status_change", true);
