[history]
Like a chorus of Hamlets, a number of Republican elders have recently begun wringing their hands in public over President Bush's evident determination to liberate the people of Iraq and, thereby, end the mortal peril Saddam Hussein poses to them and the rest of us.

But think about it: If you were bent on revenge against the United States as Saddam clearly is would you not use cut-outs and track-covering? Finally someone states the obvious in clear language.

I believe it's relevant for all the little Hamlets to read the full soliloquy:
To be, or not to be, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune;
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing, end them: to die, to sleep
No more; and by a sleep, to say we end
The heart-ache, and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to; 'Tis a consumation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die to sleep,
To sleep, perchance to dream; Aye, there's the rub,
For in that sleep of death, what dreams may come,
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil
Must give us pause. There's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life:
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of dispriz'd love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office, and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? Who would these fardles bear
To grunt and sweat under a weary life --
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscovered country, from whose bourn
No traveler returns, puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have,
Than fly to others that we know not of.
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all,
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pitch and moment,
With this regard their currents turn awry,
And lose the name of action..
Regards, Ivan

I think it may be more like we the band of brothers.
I know that Britain will stand with America on that day, and let the euros count themselves cursed.
To: Travis McGee
I'm rather glad it's just us, I didn't want to have to say that "he who sheds his blood with me is my brother" to the French. ;)

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap while any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
On to Bagdad! A British-American Pincer!

Reply to post #1 : Two recent events in the last week signal there will be no invasion of Iraq by the united States. The events were, #1 the economic deal between Russia and Iraq and, #2 the assasination Abu Nidal.

Reason #2 should read The assination of Abu Nidal.

Maybe I'll get it right this time. Reason #2 should read, the assassination of Abu Nidal.

So why does the assassination of Abu Nidal suggest that there will not be an invasion of Iraq?
To: ThePythonicCow
Reply to post #11: Because it's a signal from Sadam to Bush that he is serious about making a deal, lets just say a sign of good faith. If a deal is made, there will be no invasion of Iraq.

So Saddam is demonstrating something by killing someone. Means about as much to me as my cat killing a mouse. They both kill for fun - fortunately my cat lacks weapons of mass destruction.
The Russian-Iraq money deal might mean something, if it actually happened - last I saw it was just being claimed as imminent by some Iraqi diplomat - which means about as much to me as the mouse squeak when the cat caught it.

Yeah, but you'd think that we'd have found those tracks by now. I tend to think that if we had substantial evidence linking Saddam to 9/11, the Administration would have it all over the news to cement Congress' opinions in the matter.
Methinks someone is salivating at the bit too much.

Any questions? Time to take out the garbage.

I take it from this piece that DeLay is on board.
I don't know what Scrowcroft and Armey have been smoking.

Frankly, one dog does not mean much compared to the horror of Halabja, one of the cities gassed by Saddam.
This is like getting worked up over a street murder while ignoring Auschwitz.

Scowcroft snuck into Beijing to make nice a few weeks after Tienanmen Square. He's a "trade uber alles" squish.

Shame isn't it? I think he was the right stuff as a young man wasn't he?

This is true, but lets face it. The sight of a cute dog being gassed to death will affect Americans very deeply.
