WHAT SHOULD CONSERVATIVES DO IN 2002 AND 2004
There has been a very loud and nasty argument gong on around here for months about how the GOP and George W. Bush have deserted Conservatives to pander to moderates and liberals and that they would stay home to show their discontent.. I say argument and not debate because there has been no debate just charge and counter-charge. I have issued the challenge to several disaffected former GOP and Bush supporters to start a thread that would focus on viable alternatives to both the GOP in 2002 and a replacement for Bush in 2004. None have taken up that challenge so I will start the thread myself.
This thread is not to continue the argument pro and con for either the GOP OR G.W. Bush.. Assume that conservatives have decided that Republicans are a lost cause and that the task is to put into place a viable alternative and candidate that will not result in conceding the elections to the democrats because that is neither smart OR rational. With that in mind I hope some of you that have given up and are very vocal in that stance will make your case for how conservatives should vote in the mid-term elections and who should be the conservative choice for POTUS, regardless of party, in 2004. If there is a candidate out there that you know about that could be groomed for national office in 2 years then please tell us why you think so and as much about the record on conservative issues as possible.
Once again, please refrain from just airing the same reasons for not supporting Bush, the GOP or both. That is already documented. The purpose for this thread are viable alternatives or solutions.

There isn't a viable alternative. And this idea of getting active and creating alternative organizations like FRN is just pissing in the wind. Folks have got to work from within the party; it's a marathon not a race.

If by "viable" you mean a candidate who has a genuine chance of winning, fuhgedaboudit. There's not one.

On my part it will not be a third party, such as the Libertarians. Thanks to Free-Republic and Sean Hannity, I've black-listed them and their leader. I'd be interested to hear other opinions though. I agree, I sick of Bush bashing - let's hear something constructive!

I vote for the most conservative candidate who most closely reflects my values with the best chance of being elected. This means that sometimes I support one guy in the primary and then have to support the opponent who beat him in the general, since I live in Ct, but thats where my vote and my money go.

Ron Paul for President. He's earned our trust. There's absolutely no doubt that he respects the Constitution and our freedom.

WHAT SHOULD CONSERVATIVES DO ABOUT THE GOP AND BUSH? Get down on their knees and thank God that we have a humble, capable, honest man in the White House, and an outstanding cabinet of "retreads" who know their way around.

This should be interesting, to say the very least.

I am going to let the thread run awhile before I make any comment but I do have some questions about Paul you may be able to answer.

Well, I just saw Rush on TV mocking the President, calling him George Algore (re the global warming report) or something like that. Geez, never thought I'd see Rush making fun of Bush. We live in strange times.
I seem to recall a thread here a long time ago that the Republicans, being naturally anti-government, were more suited to be the opposition party, and would fragment if they became the leadership party. Maybe that's what's happening. It is kind of hard to criticize the government if you Are the government ;')

I posed this question on that Rush thread. Very few replies.

Yes but this is not a debate about Bush or the GOP it is for all of those that believe they have a better answer.

The only alternative which will be seen is a liberal democrat in the White House. By all means, a message should be sent to Bush by conservatives; however, the worst message we can send is to stay home on election day, or vote third party. It will mean another term of Clinton liberalism, possibly literally.
You want Hillary in the White House instead of Bush? Then by all means stay home; I personally will blame anyone who does if the election outcome is a socialist victory....

Franklin Delano Bush will occupy the Oval Office for six more years.
That should be enough time to make a sound assessment of a true, Conservative candidate.
Until then, let's hope FDB doesn't sell the entire farm to the liberals.

See my reply to the erarlier poster. There is no attempt here to change minds. It is just who has a viable. in their mind, alternative.

Freepers: We did not get into this mess (socialism in the US) overnight.
We are not going to get out of it overnight.
When Lyndon Johnson got the "Great Society" legislation passed, I thought liberty was done for in the US and my children would never live free.
Not giving up, I lived to see Ronald Reagan, the 94 congress, and Geo.Bush. None of them could or would do everything I think needs to be done to free us from the yoke of oppressive government.
BUT---- We are way ahead of where we were in the late sixties and early seventies when a republican president put in "price controls"
Take every little victory as a great step in the right direction.
It is now a jillion times easier to band together through the internet and specficly Free Republic to advance our cause. We are making headway.
I do not like some of the things that are being done either, but I'll be damned if I am going to fight with Freepers over the occassional items of disagreement. I am going to rejoice in the fact that we have found each other, and have found the means to stand a chance to keep this land we all so dearly love, FREE.
