Castro s Anti-Semitism and the PLO

In 1941, as a student at a Catholic school run by Spanish Jesuit priests who were sympathizers of fascism at that time, Castro was looking for his ideology. Displaying a fascination with power, war and domination since childhood, Castro discovered fascism and promenaded around campus with a copy of Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf in his armpit.

According to many fellow students, “the crazy,” as he was nicknamed, mimicked the speeches of Hitler and Mussolini in front of a mirror, practicing their mannerisms hour after hour. When Castro entered the University of Havana in 1945, he soon joined a gangster-type group and carried a pistol, so he could impose his will.

When Batista’s 1952 coup interrupted his political ambitions, Castro decided to fight against him and on July 26, 1953, he attacked the Moncada Barracks, an isolated outpost of the Cuban army in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba. The attack brought Castro national attention, but at the cost of the lives of about 100, including soldiers being treated in the infirmary, execution-style as they lay in their beds. This event became the inaugural cornerstone of Castro’s personal technique for attaining his goals. But Castro does not get credit for creativity with this assault, since it mimicked Hitler's Nov. 9, 1924, insane attack on the War Ministry in Munich, which made him a national figure in Germany. Castro’s attack and the highly publicized trial that followed in the Cuban media were extremely successful in his own eyes since, like Hitler, it made him a national figure on the island.

Castro’s self-defense and speech, ending with “history will absolve me,” were similar to Hitler’s Rathaus Putsch speech in 1924! And in 1953, Cuba’s leading magazine, Bohemia, selected Castro among 12 of the world’s most outstanding figures.

Like Hitler and his fascists, soon after grabbing power in 1959, Castro began eliminating people by summary executions, jail, concentration camps and exile, destroying them before they could become enemies. By 1960, he had effectively crushed the Cuban free press, including Bohemia magazine (whose owner went into exile and committed suicide out of guilt for helping Castro take over Cuba). Soon, the over 200 private radio stations and about seven private television networks and all other institutions of the Cuban civil society fell under his absolute control, and freedom was completely eliminated.

Many Spanish-speaking Sephardic Jews from the Balkans and Palestine immigrated to Cuba before World War I. In the 1920s, many Polish Jews settled in Cuba after being refused entry into the U.S. Other European Jews fleeing Hitler went to Cuba as a waiting place for entrance into the U.S. Once refused entry into the U.S., many stayed in Cuba. They liked the friendliness of the country and its free enterprise system and opportunities. Many Jews opened businesses, schools, community centers and synagogues. Many married Cubans and prospered in the 1950s economic boom. According to the Puebla Institute’s 1991 Castro’s War on Religion, page 16, the number of Jews in Cuba was about “30,000 at their peak and [was] reduced to 15,000 by 1959. Most of those fled to the United States after the revolution.”

Jews, acquainted with Hitler and the Nazis, were concerned by Castro’s similarities. They foresaw what was coming and warned others. Castro’s unbridled anti-Semitism, from his Hitler-admiring days, soon led to the expropriation of all assets of the thriving Cuban Jewish community, driving it into exile. By 1967, around 2,000 Jews were left — less than 1,000 today, most of them elderly. Many joined the growing Cuban exile community in Miami, New Jersey and other places, where they share the same opinion of Castro as other Cubans in exile. Maybe that’s the reason why the U.S. media have neglected them and most Americans ignore what they went through.

Fascism had become unacceptable thanks to the magnificent work of the victims of the Holocaust and the Jewish community worldwide. So, after the fiasco of the Bay of Pigs invasion due to President Kennedy’s betrayal, on April 1961, Castro publicly declared himself a communist. In spite of Castro’s obviously Fascist techniques, this was done for his own convenience because Marxism (communism) has become the darling of the prevailing left intellectual elite and the media.

Examples of Castro’s fascist techniques include the creation in October 1960 of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, modeled after the Nazi ones in 1930 Germany. These neighborhood committees, created for spying and controlling the population in each city block, are still active today. The creation of the Young Pioneers was modeled after the Hitler Youth to indoctrinate children beginning in elementary school. The Young Pioneers are still active today. That’s why Cuban exiles were so offended when Castro sent the “schoolteacher” with the other kids dressed in the uniform of the Young Pioneers to indoctrinate Elian Gonzalez on U.S. soil!

In January 1966, at Havana’s Tri-Continental Conference attended by communists, revolutionaries and worldwide terrorist organizations, a resolution was passed calling for the breaking of all treaties with Israel, total economic and cultural ostracism of Israel and its expulsion from all international organizations.

In November 1966, Castro opened more than a dozen guerrilla training camps under the direction of KGB Col. Vadim Kotchergine where Palestinians were trained. And in 1967, after the Six-Day War, Cuba’s U.N. ambassador, Richardo Alarcon - portrayed as a “moderate" by the U.S. media — called the war an “armed aggression against the Arab people ... by a most treacherous ... surprise attack in the Nazi manner.”

In October 1973, Castro broke diplomatic relations with Israel after he deployed thousands of Cuban soldiers including helicopter pilots and tank crews to fight alongside the Syrians during the Yom Kippur War. How many Israelis did Castro's soldiers kill? To insult Israel and the Jewish people even further, Castro gave the PLO an expropriated Jewish community center in Havana.

On Nov. 14, 1974, Yasser Arafat was enthusiastically received in Havana and given Castro's foremost decoration, the Bay of Pigs Medal. On May 30, 1978, Reuters news service confirmed (11 years later!) that PLO personnel had been trained in Cuba and on Sept. 13, the Egyptian newspaper Ahar Sa’ah reported that 500 Palestinians were leaving for training in Cuba. Does anybody know how many terrorists and suicide bombers Castro trained in his camps and how many innocent people have been killed as a result?

From the 1970s to today, Jews have been scorned in Castro’s controlled press. Paradoxically, according to Irving Louis Horowitz’s Preface in David J. Kopilow’s Castro, Israel and The PLO, the Jewish intellectuals and organizations in the U.S. “were in the forefront of singing the praises of Castro.”

But with Castro’s background of anti-Semitism, his decimation of the Cuban Jewish community, his plotting against the state of Israel and his connections with the PLO terrorist wing, it was puzzling and insulting to the Jewish community, including the Cuban Jews in exile, when Israel’s Chief Rabbi Yisrael Lau visited Cuba in 1974. On that occasion Lau said of Castro, “He is a great friend of the Jewish people. Anti-Semitism is extremely hateful to him.” Hello?

Myles Kantor, in his April 2, 2002, article, Passover in Cuba, criticizes Jewish organizations in the U.S. like the B’nai B’rith and American ORT for looking the other way regarding the violations of human rights of the Jewish community in Cuba, and for the years of silence on Castro’s crimes. Kantor asks of these organizations, why don’t they “demand the emancipation of their Cuban brethren?”

“On the contrary,” Kantor says, “they pour copious dollars into the regime through ‘humanitarian missions’ where they stay at luxurious hotels from which ordinary Cubans are excluded. They taste rum and cigars at the Hotel Nacional and feature a photograph of the fatigues-clad pharaoh.” Kantor says that the behavior of these Jewish organizations is a “disgrace.”

So, let’s think about it before we lend a hand to the wrong guy. Keep in mind that Castro’s Cuba has been designated as “terrorist” by the U.S. State Department for many years. Cuba shares “honors” with six other rogue nations: Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea and Syria — all virulently anti-American. Obviously, Castro is in partnership with international terrorism. And this partnership is bonded mainly by anti-Semitism. So there you have it.

The other thing you never hear about Castro is his blatant homophobia as well, ah but that would burst the lefties bubble about their hero, wouldn't it?

The ADL says nothing about Castro but tried to ruin a couples' life when they got into an argument over a dog with a neighbor.

Castro's a Communist dictator. This article is trying off-load the blame (because, as we all know, leftists are saints) by making him sound right-wing, but he's not.

Franco had a major dispute with Hitler, part of which was based on Hitler's hatred of the Jews. Franco felt that the Jews were the people of Jesus Christ, and therefore should be protected: Spain accepted more refugeee Jews than any other European country and more than the US.

Even though Karl Marx was a Jew (as were many other leading Communists), pure Communism has always had a real hatred of Jews. Let's call things by their name: Castro is not a fascist, he's a Communist. And they hate Jews.

Communism has always had a real hatred of Jews

Then why did Lenin and Trotsky almost immediately after the revolution make antisemitism a death penalty offense and then go on to murder millions of Christians? Why the disproportionate numbers in the Cheka, NKVD and KGB? Stalin's favorite propagandist was Ilya Ehrenburg, his favorite photographer/propagandist was Khaldei, Stalin called Lazar Kaganovitch "my Eichmann."

There is a whole lot of revisionist history going on out there when it comes to who was who and who did what in the Soviet Block.

I don't think most thoughtful people accept Jewish-born communists as being really Jewish any more than they accept Christian-born communists as being really Christian. True religious belief and communism are not compatible.

Then why did Israel grant Solomon Morel and Nachman Dushanski (both wanted for genocide and crimes against humanity) citizenship based on their Jewish heritage? Why did San Francisco’s Jewish Museum put on a showing (at $5 a head) of the work of Yevgeny Khaldei? Why are the papers of Ilya Ehrenburg, Stalin's favorite propagandist and winner of the Order of Lenin and the Stalin Prize housed at the Israeli Yad Vashem 'Holocaust' Museum? Why did Trotsky seek the creation of a Jewish state?

I have no idea, but I suspect that it might be because they might understand why someone of Jewish birth might turn to an anti-religious supposedly egalitarian movement in the face of religious intolerance, especially at the hands of the Holy See.

This is from the history of the hometown of my own grandfather:

1561-Przemysl synagogue is attacked by the burghers

1608- A complaint is brought before the Przemysl municipality against the Jews, alleging that they "by their subtlety and slyness" constitute a dangerous competition to the burgher merchants

1628- Attack on "the Jewish street". Private houses are demolished, Jewish hospital and Jewish stores are plundered.

1630- A Christian woman, while questioned under torture, accuses Jews of having persuaded her to steal a consecrated host (she eventually dies at the stake). As a result, Moses (Moszko) SZMUKLERZ is imprisoned by municipal authorities, tortured and burnt at the stake. This event was commemorated yearly at one of the Przemysl synagogues.

1638- King Wladyslaw IV issues a privilege asserting the Przemysl Jewish community’s right to rebuild after the fire. The king expresses his concern that Jewish rights are not being respected and that the royal treasury might suffer if the Jews are not able to rebuild. The privilege grants the Przemysl kahal hegemony over the surrounding Jewish communities. This allows the city kahal to raise money through tax collection.

1645- The long lasting economic conflict between the Polish and Jewish communities is normalized after years of disputes and prolonged litigation. A historic contract is achieved, regulating the boundaries within which Jewish merchants and artisans were to "ply their vocations". This a agreement was in effect until the first partition of Poland in 1772.

1743- Decree of the Catholic bishop of Przemysl, Waclaw Sierakowski, dictating ways in which Jews should behave vis a vis Christians, including forbidding them to be out in the street during a Christian procession, and prohibiting them from working on Sunday and other Christian holidays, etc.

1746- Jesuit students plunder the Jewish quarter, looting Jewish homes. They beak into the synagogue and demolish its interior. The holy Ark and the Torah scrolls are destroyed. The synagogue archive, which includes important documents from the wojewoda's court, is also destroyed

1752- Prince August Czartoryski, the Przemysl wojewoda, issues a decree for Jews to return to the city or face severe penalties

1867- Jews granted equal rights to those of other residents of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Its off Jewishgen.org if you're truly interested. Maybe you'd like to explain how the dominant religion of the region came to make the idea of faith itself a symbol of fear? Why would people, both Christian and Jewish, devote themselves to a cause so opposed to belief? Is it possible that the authorities at the time, those that used faith to back up their authority and their "divine right", actually laid the foundation for communism by their actions over so many centuries?

True religious belief and communism are not compatible.

Amen to that. A "Christian communist" is the mother of all oxymorons.

Thank you. I imagine a communist son/daughter is an embarassment to any family that believes that faith isn't dead. Heaven help those folks, and absolve them from the mistakes and blame that their children bring upon them.

That excuses Trotsky and Kaganovitch from murdering over 7 million Christians?

Come on, those people slaughtered in the Ukraine had nothing to do with what happened decades or hundreds of years earlier.

I believe I am begining to see why the mideast conflict goes on and on.

"I believe I am begining to see why the mideast conflict goes on and on.

" If you want to mix apples and oranges, go ahead. Why are you going so far off subject? I would think Castro's links to the PLO and the other Arab client states and terrorists that the Soviet Union supported would attract your ire given our current situation. Is this related to your posts singling out Jewish dems? I would think democrap Catholics like the Kennedy cabal would concern you as well. Why don't you mention them by name and faith? I wonder if you feel the same level of guilt as many of other religions feel about their "bad" representatives? I think you single out Jewish demorat reps to assuage your own guilt about Catholic dems. Its only a theory...

I've told you why I could see people of Jewish birth from Eastern Europe going commie. Maybe you'd like to explain why all those people of Christian birth "followed" them?

So Jewish communists did not kill Jewish non-Communists? Wow! You should put that in a serious book since none of the dozens of Soviet-era histories I've read failed to mention the many Jews killed by Stalin's henchmen.

Commies turning on commies. But Christians were the ones who were to be wiped out "as a class" (kulak was the code word). Trotsky and Lenin made antisemitism a death penalty offense shortly after seizing power. No similar prohibition on persecuting Christians.

newwahoo writes:Why are you going so far off subject? I would think Castro's links to the PLO and the other Arab client states and terrorists that the Soviet Union supported would attract your ire given our current situation.

Off topic? This article is about Jewish groups such as the ADL and American ORT ignoring the antisemitism of Castro (the Simon Wiesenthal Center says nothing either).

There is a real denial among many Jews when it comes to the crimes of communists . Jews weren't involved in the genocide in the Soviet Block (Kaganovitch,Morel,Yagoda, Slavsky, Trotsky, Rosa Schwartz and others were not "real" Jews) and Castro's hatred of Jews is not worth a mention (but the Simon Wiesenthal Center can go after a gun club in Utah and label them a "Hate Group").

The hypocrisy is outstanding.

If you are seriously interested in the subject -- and I don't think you are -- I suggest you read Arkady Vaksberg's book Stalin Against the Jews (Vintage, 1994).

It's a scholarly work nearly 300 pages long which documents the murders of thousands of Jews during the Stalin years.

The author, a Russian Jew, doesn't shirk from the fact that Kaganovich and other Jewish communists were enthusiastic killers of non-communists, including other Jews. He goes out of his way to debunk Kaganovich's late-life attempt to paint himself as opposed to Stalin's Doctors Plot which, as you may not know, was anti-Jewish.

Those "non-communists" were mostly Christian. Yes, Jews were killed too. Just as Christians were killed by the Nazis.Rudolf Slansky was the number two man in Czechoslovakia. He helped turn the country into a virtual prison camp. Then Stalin turned on him and 11 other of his Jewish coconspirators. They were hanged. Ever see the movie Trial in Prague? Pure propaganda. Liberal revisionist history. Poor Rudolf, a victim of antisemitism. This movie is very popular among the Identity Politics crowd. It is sickening to watch.

Many Czechs were glad to see Slansky hanged. Not because he was Jewish but because he was a vicious criminal. They only wish all the leaders had been hanged. The Czechs would not have endured nearly 40 more years of Hell.

I should have said, it hates religious Jews - that is, Jews who have not converted to Communism, as did the Jewish followers of Stalin, et al, that you mentioned. The Jews who were involved in the founding of Communism, including Marx, saw themselves as rejecting their religion (which Marx described as the "sigh of the hard-pressed creature, the heart of a heartless world") for something "purer" and stronger than theistic religion.

Interestingly, I wonder if they find Communism incompatible with Islam. The two seem perfectly matched, and indeed many of the Islamic radicals are extremely left-wing.

They did reject the essence of Judiasm. No doubt about that. But they did work for Jewish causes including the founding of a Jewish state. Trotsky thought only a proletarian revolution could create one. What is most disturbing is the fact that Israel and many Jews in America have honored the communist butchers. Israel should extradict those who fled to Israel to avoid prosecution for war crimes. Stalin's propagandists should not be honored by retrospectives of their work nor should their papers be in a Holocaust museum in Israel.

You don't see major Christian groups honoring Nazis.

Only if the Russian Orthodox were resposnible for the Crimes of the ex-Seminary student, Stalin.

Communists can be Jews only in the sense that they can be German, Russian, or Italian. They are internationalists who destroy their home culture.
