[history]
The cartoon Simpsons recently visited Canada. At the top of Toronto's CN Tower, an ever-so-polite security guard tells Homer the tower is closing. With a flourish, Homer pulls out a single U.S. greenback. The guard, transfixed, exclaims, "American currency!!! When would you like your wake-up call, sir?"

The Canucks have only themselves to blame for electing idiot socialists into power. They made the mess. They can clean it up. We'll be laughing until they do.

Gee. Yet another country where socialism doesn't work. How many more examples do they need to find before they get the message?

With all due respect to Simpsons comedy writers, this ain't funny to a Canadian Yes it is.

Ottawa and the provincial capitals are home to some of the most manipulative, micro-managing, power hungry socialists as you will find in the civilized world.
Socialism destroys a society's prosperity..when will they ever learns this?
People (and their investments) vote with their feet against Canada's vermin government, especially where most of the population lives near the border with Bush Country.

"roughly at par 25 years ago"? Utter nonsense. 50 years ago, yes. I remember a trip I made to Canada in 1977 when every night the news shows lamented another drop in the Cnadaian dollar - then (I think) in the low 80s. Despite all the agonizing then, no changes were made.
Now it is at 62%. By the way, what % of NHL players are Canadian?

I wouldn't just blame it on the Ottawa Government. Some Canadian folks I know were asking me what kind of taxes we had down here, because they're taxes were rediculous...
BTW-the Misses was on a PAID government maternity leave at the time. They didn't really appreciate it when I told them that those government "Programs" have to be paid from somewhere.

Let these guys continue on their path to self-destruction. Someday soon, the Canadian dollar will be worth one U.S .penny. Then, they might wake up and realize the follies of their socialist policies. They'll be begging us to annex them before their GDP per capita falls below our southern neighbors.
Even though I'm a former Canadian citizen (born in Winnipeg, US citizen since 1994), I really don't feel sorry for them.

Just so long as they don't "devalue" the Canadian Ballet this Buffalo freeper will be very happy. BTW there is nothing cheap about canadian beer. They clip you about $16 can. (about $10 US) at the ballet for a pitcher of the stuff. It is good beer however. Come to think of it, that aint so bad what with all the "entertainment". :-))

If you can find a country with more freedom or a better, more open free market than the USA, move there.

Most notable point about the loonie coin is that it is very nearly the same size and weight as ther Susan B Anthony dollar. It's notable if you happen to have a vending machine anywhere near your pocket of the Canadian coins.

That is not the point! The Dems would gladly turn us into another Canada. AndI do not like your tone. I am a 13th generation American and a former Marine. I do not need lectures in patriotism out of you.

Vacationing-in-Montreal bump for the Loony!

My point was that we are not anywhere near a "socialist" country and I'm tired of whiners on this site who claim that we are. That was the upshot of your original post, as I took it.
As for offending you, I apologize -- no offense was intended. Just an expression of exasperation.
