FUTURE ON THE LINE FOR CHENEY-White House Refuses to Confirm VP Status on 2004 Ticket
Monday's New York Post ^ | January 28, 2001 | Cindy Adams

Posted on 01/27/2002 8:07:49 PM PST by codebreaker

Theres a sort of 'pin the tail on the vice president' game quietly caroming around the White House. Nobody really talks about it. Nobody really knows what you're talking about when you try and talk about it. It is not articulated. It is not formulated. It just is.

Pose any question no matter how soft and mushy about the VP. Ask for instance, 'So listen what do you think is Cheney on the ticket again with Bush the next time up?' And the easy loose answer is: 'Oh hey, the re-election's so far down the line that with all the problems around nobody's focusing on that yet.' Right.

Ask 'So what's your opinion, could this Enron thing suck Cheney in?' And what comes back to you is 'Oh, who knows what can happen in the world these days.' Right.

Mox nix what the query is, the 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue strategy is now this: No statements or assessments or pronouncements, no speculation whatsoever on Vice President Richard Cheney's future. Nothing positive. Nothing negative. Just nothing. Zip, zap, zippo, zero, zilch.

It would almost seem-almost-almost as if somebody eventually needs to be thrown overboard in light of Enron's end run, the wise heads, wise guys and wise asses on the top of the mountain are readying the VP to be the designated stinker.

**Boy I wish my bank would take crap...**

I'm sure your bank takes lots of crap, and passes it out to their customers with interest.

Anything to make Daschle, Rather and Helen Thomas suffer is a positive candidate characteristic in my book. :-)

Yeah she is also qualified to further the abortion industry.

I was unaware that Rice's background consisted of performing abortions. Did she do this in her spare time at Stanford, or is it something she does on holiday while meeting with Putin over in Russia?

These clueless people. . .who know, 'not of what they speak'. . .and arrogant who would toy, not only with a man who does not deserve the intimations of wrongdoing. . .but put in jeopardy the protections of the Office of VP and President. . .and for what?

Not for the truth of the matter, for sure.

The sheer joy of taking stabs at the WH, now that the blood and tears are drying from September 11? They are so bored?. . .Too lazy to work on honest stories re Enron?

Disgusting. . .

I'd like Bush to pick Rice, his NSA Advisor

Yep, I agree with you. She's a First Class choice. Check out my FR homepage.

Health, the war and Enron will restrict him to one term. Of the latter two, Enron may be worse.

You comments are SOOOOO TRUE and right ON!!! Worth a repeat performance so we don't forget the $20M he threw out the window, in exchange to SERVE us...the American people. We're sooo indebted to this man. He's the epitomy of a man having Altruistic love for his country and the citizens this country. God Bless You, Dick Cheney. We Love you!!!

Dear Cindy Adams:

In the words of the old Saturday Night Live and Dan Akryod, "Cindy, you ignorant slut."

Dick Cheney has had a distinguished national career serving America. In private life, he cashed out roughly 21 million dollars in HAL stock options. Dick Cheney doesn't need your brainless crap nor that of any other liberal media jerk. He has a heart problem and could be living the easy life with his money in retirement heaven.

Instead, he chose to serve his country. He puts up with the slime and the slugs like you and their idiot questions and stupid speculation.

In case you have not noticed, there are far more important things going on in the world than your stupid little wonderment of who is going to be on the ticket in 2004. Are you so shallow that you can not write a report on possible nuclear war in India/Pakistan, bio-warfare attacks through our postal service, possible backpack nuclear weapons being smuggled in to the US or our weak national borders and security? These are the important things Dick Cheney works on for a pittance instead of living the good life in retirement.

You see, Dick Cheney is a national hero. You are just an ignorant slut.

Can anyone show me where an administration "discussed" VP nominations three years before an election?

Ain't Pres. Bush's style. He's true blue to his friends. BTW, the two guys are thick as twins. If Cheney doesn't want to run next time, he won't but he'd still be there helping Bush if he's needed.

Condi Rice has been mentioned as a possibility and I like the lady, but she talks over the heads of Jane and Joe Sixpack.

You have a good point here. She's such a bright lady, understands world issues very well. I read that she graduated college at 19, magna cum laude.

Why is Enron the worse? What evidence do you have that he did anything wrong? Let us hear it? I cannot imagine Cheney doing ANYTHING wrong. Explain, please.

God forbid! A college C man, who cannot distinguish the importance between Prisoners of War and detainees, not only according to law, but the wisdom of doing so.

An attempt to sow seeds of division. Cheney is an invaluable aid to Bush. He is a master of the question/answer format that the media loves to use to trip up politicians.

His being on the ticket is entirely a matter of his health.

I get to post to your comment, if not a thread as requested. :<) A little harsh on a gossip columnist, what do they know? (It's probably an expendable job, if we send enough letters to the Post, yours a prime example.) Then she could bone up on her first and necessary vocation of citizenship.

"No WAY would Powell be VP. IMO Condi Rice will be on the ticket before Powell. Condi and W and THICK!!! And they think alike on world issues. She's a HAWK. Powell and W are NOT so thick.." Agreed she is a better choice, however she is not part of Tricky Dick and Daddy George's master plan. A wonderful choice, I agree. Would she need a cabinte post first? In any event, this is not about being thick, it is about out-FDR'ing the DemoRats.

I never thought he would be on the ticket again and still don't.

I agree, big ern. It will be Condi Rice as VP pick in 2004, and PRESIDENT RICE in 2008. She will be not only the first female, but the first black as POTUS, and also a Republican, as well. The Dims will be soiling their pants. The only thing that would make it more fun would be if Hitlery tried to run against her. Hooeeeee!!!

Although Cheney is a superhero, he will probably be unelectable for president in 2008, primarily due to health concerns. I say make Donald Rumsfeld the VP in 2004. He can do no wrong. And remember where you heard that first. :)
