FUTURE ON THE LINE FOR CHENEY-White House Refuses to Confirm VP Status on 2004 Ticket
Monday's New York Post ^ | January 28, 2001 | Cindy Adams

Posted on 01/27/2002 8:07:49 PM PST by codebreaker

Theres a sort of 'pin the tail on the vice president' game quietly caroming around the White House. Nobody really talks about it. Nobody really knows what you're talking about when you try and talk about it. It is not articulated. It is not formulated. It just is.

Pose any question no matter how soft and mushy about the VP. Ask for instance, 'So listen what do you think is Cheney on the ticket again with Bush the next time up?' And the easy loose answer is: 'Oh hey, the re-election's so far down the line that with all the problems around nobody's focusing on that yet.' Right.

Ask 'So what's your opinion, could this Enron thing suck Cheney in?' And what comes back to you is 'Oh, who knows what can happen in the world these days.' Right.

Mox nix what the query is, the 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue strategy is now this: No statements or assessments or pronouncements, no speculation whatsoever on Vice President Richard Cheney's future. Nothing positive. Nothing negative. Just nothing. Zip, zap, zippo, zero, zilch.

It would almost seem-almost-almost as if somebody eventually needs to be thrown overboard in light of Enron's end run, the wise heads, wise guys and wise asses on the top of the mountain are readying the VP to be the designated stinker.

If Cheney isn't on the ticket in 2004, it will be because of his health, NOT because of Enron.

Sums up the content of her article. What's her point? Why write it?

I don't believe that for a minute. A VP is pretty hard to kill (figuratively, not literally). Look at what Al Gore was into as VP. That guy should be in prison (him and Bill). If aiding the chemical and nuclear weapons programs of hostile foreign powers is not a jailable offense, what are they going to do to Dick Cheney? Forget about it. There will be a lot of talk and nothing will happen.

You got that right!

This "article" is a piece of crap.

I never thought he would be on the ticket again and still don't.

The next v.p. will (IMHO) be someone else so they can set up another presidential candidate for 2008. Cheney with his health issues, non exciting personality, and age at the time of 2007 run precludes his ability to run a strong campaign.

He was and is a strong choice for W's first run because he was everything Bush was perceived to be lacking.

I clicked on the link and couldn't help but notice that this is a running celebrity gossip column. Maybe you shouldn't pick up every piece of trash that you find on the internet.

Why on earth should they confirm anything? Too early! As far as the topic is concerned, I don't expect Cheney to run. He will retire, as he really was just doing a last favor for the Bush admin. 33 years in DC is a long, long time.

This is ludicrous B.S. Simple imagining for the sake of writing a story, any story, about a non-story (Enron). Just about as stupid a line on this non-story as everything else they've thrown against the wall in the last few weeks.

The level of desperation has reached almost unfathomable depths.

There have been many stupid things written in order to breathe life in the stone cold corpse of the Enron "political scandal". This may be the most stupid.
