Sorry for the dumb questions, but can someone explain "pinging" and "bumping" to this newbie?

Arthur McGowan is the best person to ask about "pinging". You may want to ping him to this thread.

i have bumped this thread back to the top of the screen, but you are the only person i have pinged regarding it

When you Bump an article it goes to the top of the replies page. You can Bump, or BTTT (Bump to the top) when you think the article would be of interest to others without adding your own comments.
To ping someone is to alert them to a particular item. You type their name where is says To. and they will get the message in their self search.

Sometime I "bump for later" if the article is interesting or too long to read right away (the boss is coming!)as an alternative to bookmarking. Once bumped, it will show up in the self-search area.
