Noem says she shot ‘extremely dangerous’ dog to protect her children

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R), who has been under the microscope this week for an anecdote about killing her dog, defended her actions Wednesday, saying she shot the “dangerous” pup in order to protect her children.

“It was a dog that was extremely dangerous,” Noem said Wednesday on Fox News’s “Hannity.” “It had come to us from a family who had found her way too aggressive.”

“We were her second chance. And she was — the day she was put down was a day that she massacred livestock that were part of our neighbors,” she continued. “She attacked me. And it was a hard decision.”

Noem added that she had to make a choice between “keeping my small children and other people safe, or a dangerous animal, and I chose the safety of my children.”

“It’s a shame but it’s also a shame that people are so childishly over sensitive about animals even about every aspect of life.”

I’m sad for your reality.

Yup, it showed a lack of perception on her part.
We shoot dogs that bite, it’s necessary, but why put it in her book?
She had to know the left would be picking it apart for propaganda, and she gave it to them on a silver platter.
Dumb.

That sure proved his masculinity.

What part of Manhattan do you live in?

Your statement/post is absolutely ridiculous abd dodges the point.

Ranchers do not have hundreds of dollars in their pocket or bank account to load up a dog, drive 20-50 miles into town, find a VET, pay him and then drive 20-50 miles again and go back to work ranching. Nor do they have the TIME to do all that as usually they only have themselves to do the work on their ranch.

Yes, you do get one thing right. The rancher/owner of the dog IS RESPONSIBLE. So, he shoots the dog(s). Did it ever dawn on you that he might not, and almost certainly does not, enjoy shooting a dog! But, the dog cannot be allowed to kill again.

“And, as a dog breeder/trainer, I totally get it. Some dogs must be put down.”

Then you know most of the time it is the humans who don’t know how to train or treat animals that causes problems with dogs. I bet you don’t shoot them.

“You think it doesn’t matter when your animal kills your neighbor’s chickens?”

It matters. Pay for the damage, secure the chickens better and, by the way, dogs can be trained not to kill too. I guess that is too hard and inconvenient so just blow the dog’s brains out.

If the Democrats keep winning elections, they WILL eventually come for your dogs AND cats AND chickens AND cattle AND land AND homes, etc.. I would really get upset about someone shooting a problematic dog and keep harping on it until my dying breath just to effect the above. Go for it. Keep making stupid comments on here about how angry you are someone ELSE shot a dog. Come on, keep after it.

““You cannot break a dog of this”

Actually you can totally break a dog of it. You can desensitize them over time or you can just tie the dead chicken around their neck and leave it flipping around on them for 5 days. They will never chase a chicken again. Its an old farmer’s trick.”

Thank you. The yahoos with small genitals need to prove how tough they are. Its too inconvenient to spend the time to train a dog and care for it.

Does it remind you of the Covid 19 scam? People swallowing the bait hook. line. and sinker and running with it . Instead of reasoning things out and then acting.

I believe the dog also attacked people. Farm people view animals differently. This is just a fact.
In many states it would be illegal to shoot your own dog.

I have to agree with you.
I could discuss the issues surrounding a person shooting a dog which they believed dangerous.

I could NOT consider ruining the career of a conservative republican over it, or over the fact they were honest and told the story.

Which is worse, people with a fanatical worship of animals, or the fact 25% of Republicans will immediately desert any republican?
Toss up.

Who cares about some worthless chickens? Anyone who, would shoot a dog for killing chickens is a psycho. If you can’t handle a dog, rehome it. Animal abusers are subhumans.

I’m still grieving for my precious Blue Heeler who I was forced to euthanize on April 1. He was struck by my neighbor’s father in law’s SUV and suffered grievous injuries. I’ve always had a good relationship with the aforementioned neighbors, but I feel some resentment because the father in law hasn’t called to apologize, and the neighbors didn’t seem too concerned.

My point is that, to many people, dogs are family. One can always replace chickens. Noem could have found a new home for the dog or taken it to a shelter. Instead, she chose the most cruel option.

Noem is an idiot.

Sadly, in this, many here reveal the are emotional liberals.

I had a terminally ill cat euthanized by a vet after a year of cancer treatment. I hated every second of it and still do.

However, some people worship animal life, and especially cats and dogs, to an extreme degree.

That’s fine in their lives, but then they start judging others and assuming every animal is deserving of protecting like a newborn baby.
Sound like PETA?

The dog should not have been shot. Kristi Noem was just too incompetent and cruel to find a better solution.

She’s a horrible excuse for a human.

Kristi Noem made the correct decision to put down the rogue dog.

You are not completely correct. She made a personal decision based on what she was presented with at the time.
Many farm people like their animals, they might even say they love some of them.
But I have witnessed moral rural people accept the death of a cat or dog.
In one example, I knew a guy out West who favored one little cat out of the many they keep to control mice.
Another dominant cat was coming around and attacking that cat.
He decided that if the cat did it one more time, it was getting shot.
It happened again, and he took out his rifle and shot the offending cat.
Did he shock me with that story? Yeah. Did he make a decision of how to control the animal situation at his farm? yes.

Maybe you think he’s evil and maybe he just made his own decision as humans do every day with problem animals.

He should have caught the cat and brought it to a shelter, where btw they would have killed it. OK
