Actually, I have an older vehicle. Was riding as a passenger with someone whose car has all these bells and whistles. All these features were distracting to me and I was just a passenger!!

They want only the privileged few to own cars. Not us lowly peasants.
Just yesterday, I was telling my kid that I wish car companies could make some models without all the bells & whistles so that peasants like myself could afford a new one. My old clunker won’t last much longer.

I have a hitch receiver into which I put one of those aluminum racks. Useful for hauling bags of mulch and potting soil, and not having to put the stuff inside your vehicle.
Well, my new ride has auto braking, which freaks out when you put a rack back there and put it in reverse. It auto applies the brakes ferociously. You can overcome it, but it takes some effort. I need to figure out how to turn that off when I’m backing up in that config.
Well personal adoption will vary depending on the very things you and Hanamizu mentioned. It’s sort of like social media. People over 50 are just not that into it. Younger people are way too into it (imho).
Tesla is all in on FSD. If you haven’t, check out the amateur/enthusiast videos online. It’s very impressive. Not perfect but pretty darn good. It will only get better now that Tesla changed to a subscription model they are getting exponentially more data. I imagine industry competitors lobbyists and others will attempt to throttle its adoption as much as possible in part because they are so far behind on the data (though they could deploy the tech) they are almost required to license it from Tesla to make it workable for them.
They need to increase the cost of internal combustion vehicles as much as possible so that the sheeple will finally start buying EVs.
Why don’t they just ORDER the sun to stop shining?

The reason Level 3 driving is important is because this is the first time that the vehicle itself is liable for driving versus Level 2 in which the person driving is still supposed to be supervising the system at all times and is notably still liable for any accidents that occur.
It also allows you to LEGALLY take your eyes off the road to perform other tasks like watching a video unlike current systems available on the market.
The reason it’s limited to 40 MPH and specific roads is exactly because of both regulations and Mercedes wanting to ensure the system operates properly before expanding the limitations further (because again they’ve stated they are liable for any accidents that occur while the system is active).
I have adaptive cruise control on my 2017 vehicle.
It’s the greatest vehicle enhancement since they first installed windshields.
I won’t ever buy another car without it.
I got a new F-150 a few years ago. It doesn’t have auto braking but it does have a collision alert. I had no idea it had it until I was in the middle of a panic stop when this stupid loud alarm went off and my wheel shook. It scared the crap out of me. I am a professional driver and don’t need that nonsense.
Five minutes later I figured out how to disable it.
After such a swell job that Buttigieg has displayed, why would any thinking person listen to his advice or thoughts?

People like you and I always seemed to buy the best of the worst at that point. I scrambled for a lot of years until the family and myself were able to get ahead so I can make payments on a good automobile. It’ll be my last one, though, as it will have enough miles available on it new to cover the rest of my life. Then my kids can ware it out.
