Gov. Kristi Noem has “no shot” at being Donald Trump’s running mate after revealing in a forthcoming book that she shot and killed her puppy, sources close to the 45th president tell The Post.

“She was already unlikely to be picked as VP, but had a shot,” the person said of Noem, who has been widely projected to be on Trump’s shortlist.
“After this, it’s just impossible.”
Noem writes, according to the Guardian, that she executed Cricket, a 14-month-old wirehaired pointer, after determining that the pooch’s “aggressive personality” made her “untrainable” as a hunting dog.
“It was not a pleasant job,” the 52-year-old recounts, “but it had to be done.”
*** “Trump isn’t a dog person necessarily,” “but I think he understands that you can’t choose a puppy killer as your pick, for blatantly obvious reasons.”
A second source told The Post that Trump “likes Kristi a lot,” but was “disappointed when hearing the ‘dog’ story. ***
Unfettered, Cricket attacked the family’s chickens, “grabb[ing] one chicken at a time, crunching it to death with one bite, then dropping it to attack another,” according to the governor.
When Noem tried to restrain the dog, Cricket “whipped around to bite me,” and was “the picture of pure joy” during the fowl-killing spree.
In the same excerpt, Noem described in graphic detail her killing a male goat who was “nasty and mean” because it was uncastrated, and “loved to chase” her children around.
To kill the goat, she “dragged him to the gravel pit” where she disposed of Cricket and had to shoot him repeatedly to finish the job.

You missed the point-you don’t just dump the dog at a shelter-there are several rescue outfits nearby out here that deal with specific breeds of dog-like bird dogs-they are experienced in properly training those dogs and don’t just give them to anyone-you have to know what you are doing to be approved get one of the dogs. Also-you can’t tell me she couldn’t afford to take the dog she hated so much to a vet to euthanize humanely-she apparently just wanted to shoot it herself for whatever reason. I’m a country person and it looks bad to me...

What is wrong with a bullet to the brain, that is quite humane. You are OK with the death of the dog, just not the method.

This story to me is a non starter. The decision to kill or have an animal killed, or for that instance even a human killed is of a very moral servitude. Some times you have time to ponder it and sometimes it is of an instant choice. But sometimes you have to make it. To be truthful, it would be harder for me to kill an ailing pet than it would for me to kill a thief.
I’m not okay with killing your dog when there is a better solution-like let a breed specific rescue place train the dog and find an owner who knows enough to keep a bird dog away from chickens at the least. Those places have existed for at least 30 years-even here in the boonies. But if she just had to have the dog dead-let a vet do it-not the owner in anger-that is just not good...
And no, I’m not a city person-I’ve been in the country, around livestock most of my life, and I know enough not to have a pointer-or any other dog- around chickens, or off leash at all outside your fence unless you are on a hunt...
Where I live we don’t have fences, my dogs roam free, they protect my home. If by chance they roam to far and attack some neighbors chickens and they shot them, I would understand.But they don’t roam far, they stay close to home and protect the homestead.
There are some folks here I don’t think I’d want to have for neighbors...
While you can shoot a dog coming on your property bothering livestock out here, everyone has fences, from the smallest to largest acreage lot. You are expected to confine your livestock, poultry-and dogs-to your property in this county. We also have a leash law, for the safety of animals and people.
If your dog gets loose, there is a $500.00 fine for an unleashed dog running loose. If your dog roams onto someone’s property and mauls, chases or kills any livestock-including chickens-not only can they shoot your dog, they will take you to court for any damages to fences, etc as well as the cost of the injured or killed livestock. Totally different from wherever in the state you are, but we have everything from cattle and goats to alpacas and emus out here-secure fences are a must...
yeah, I use to live in Texas, and it sound like where you live is why I left. I live in NE Alabama now, free from all that bullshit that is infecting the lone star state.

I grew up on a ranch in W Texas-I like fences-they make good neighbors, especially where people grow food and keep livestock. My family came to Texas and NM from Mexico-over 200 years ago-so I’m not going anywhere...

A dog can be broke of chicken killing, I’ve had to do it to two of my dogs.
When they kill the first one you take the dead chicken away from them; THEN BEAT THE HELL OUT OF THE DOG WITH THE DEAD CHICKEN UNTILL THE DOG IS COVERED IN CHICKEN GUTS AND YOUR JUST HOLDING TWO DRUMSTICKS!
Then you tie what ever is left of the chicken around their necks and let it ROT OFF.
Neither one of those dogs ever went after another chicken for the rest of their very long lives, they both turned out to be excellent livestock dogs.
This just proves to me that this Noem woman can’t handle disciplining a dog and getting the correct results, so how would she do with an uncooperative foriegn opponent?
Yeah, yeah; I know she is a governor of some mid-western state, I’ve seen a lot of REALLY STUPID GOVERNORS in my time.
