Mike Pence: Donald Trump’s Abortion Stance Is a ‘Slap in the Face’

Former Vice President Mike Pence slammed former President Donald Trump’s position on a national abortion ban as a “slap in the face.”

Pence issued a statement on X, criticizing Trump’s announcement that he did not support a federal ban on abortion.

“President Trump’s retreat on the Right to Life is a slap in the face to the millions of pro-life Americans who voted for him in 2016 and 2020,” Pence wrote in his statement:

By nominating and standing by the confirmation of conservative justices, the Trump-Pence Administration helped send Roe v. Wade to the ash heap of history where it belongs and gave the pro-life movement the opportunity to compassionately support women and unborn children.

“But today, too many Republican politicians are all too ready to wash their hands of the battle for life,” Pence continued. “However much our Republican nominee or other candidates seek to marginalize the cause of life, I know pro-life Americans will never relent until we see the sanctity of life restored to the center of American law in every state in this country.”

Pence’s statement came hours after Trump announced in a video posted to Truth Social on Monday that the decision of abortion would be left up to the states to “determine by vote or legislation.”

Letting the people decide, is a slap in the face to Pence.
Letting the states do what they are supposed to do, is a slap in the face to Pence.
Enumerated powers mean nothing to Pence.
Mike Pence needs to shut up.

Pence is treasonous garbage who needs to be placed in the bin for pick-up. What he has to say can’t be trusted any more that whatever lies come from Obama/ Biden.

Given the red wave that DID NOT happen because of this issue, I think Trump has it right. The young liberal and old liberal women will come out in droves like they did in the last mid-terms if he takes a hard stance.

Trump’s abortion policy is about as pragmatic as you can get.

Trump said it’s back to the states. That’s the way it should be. The left is actually winning most state abortion referendum. If the Republicans run on abortion,it will be a bloodbath.

This is just Pence trying to goad Trump into taking an unpopular stance on abortion that would guarantee a Democratic win in November, both at the Presidential and at the Congressional levels.

Pence isn’t just a duplicitous moron. He’s a duplicitous @sshole. This was the FULL text of the statement that is cut off in the Breitbart article (note the highlighted text) …

By nominating and standing by the confirmation of conservative justices, the Trump-Pence Administration helped send Roe v. Wade to the ash heap of history where it belongs and gave the pro-life movement the opportunity to compassionately support women and unborn children. In the landmark Dobbs decision, the Supreme Court returned the question of abortion to the states and the American people.

In other words, Pence commends the U.S. Supreme Court for a decision that President Trump was simply reinforcing with his statement yesterday.

Like I said … this guy is a greasy, duplicitous @sshole.

Bill Barr and Mike Pence are two of the most self-righteous frauds I’ve ever seen in public life. Barr’s discussion about the latest indictments supposedly involving Jan. 6 is incoherent and imbecilic. In other words, he has nothing but contempt for Trump because Trump fired him, and he would be thrilled if Trump not only lost the election but was sentenced to years in prison. That’s why he is on his own egomaniacal public tour, doing press everywhere and anywhere trashing the former president and, mostly, giving aid and comfort to Garland and Smith. Mike Pence is another piece of work. He took notes in his discussion with the president about the election for the purpose of covering his ass one day, even though a president is free to ask his vice president to delay the counting of electors (whether or not that’s a good idea is beside the point, it is not unconstitutional or illegal). Pence first fought the grand jury subpoena. After he was forced to testify and provide his notes (which he took in secret), now he tries to position himself as some great hero. He fooled no one and destroyed his reputation. Both of them are now in great demand by news organizations because they serve the purposes of DOJ and the Democrat Party media. Disgraceful.

When it comes to Trump vs conservatism, Trump always wins. I can guarantee if Trump comes out as pro-choice, more than half of FR will go with him.

You have got to admire a man who can change millions of dedicated people from one position to another on a whim.

I never said much about pence when he was VP.
But he was one of quite few on Trump’s team who gave me a vibe that there is something not quite right with this person.

The left is actually winning most state abortion referendum.

I suspect that’s exactly why Pence and many so-called pro-life leaders came out and complained about Trump’s statement yesterday. The U.S. Supreme Court gave them exactly what they asked for in overturning Roe, and now they’re whining about Trump because they’re getting their asses kicked in every state where they’re fighting the next round of battles.

They’re like a baseball team that loses ten straight games, then complains that they should be playing basketball instead.

I like to know, which FReepers, not previously against Trump, are now against him due to his just announced stand on abortion (that it should be up to the individual states)?

That cuts both ways. On threads just like this one yesterday we had plenty of Freepers calling Ronald Reagan the greatest pro-life president in history ...

... even though as governor of California he had signed one of the first state statutes loosening abortion restrictions into law.

Go figure.

This from an alleged pro-life Christian that can't even figuring out voting for the man that put judges on SCOTUS that overturned Roe rather one that supports abortion until birth and taxpayer expense is of vital importance to the pro-life movement.

A RINO? You do know conservatives hate abortion. His policy is actually conservative on this issue. No 15 week ban which is what trump wants which is more then roe went.

Always has been a States Rights (ie. not federal) issue -AND- in each state, much closer to homes, a matter between individuals and God, who gave all of us to Jesus.

What would Jesus want a person to do?

IMHO:

a) Do not engage in sexual intercourse unless you are married and accept responsibility for the baby

b) If sexual intercourse is forced upon you, and you do not want the baby, put the baby up for adoption.

In general, stay close to God and pray for guidance toward the right thing and forgiveness where you believe you fail.
