Cohen: Trump ‘really angry’ he can’t make bond in civil fraud case

Former Trump attorney Michael Cohen said former President Trump is “really angry” that he can’t make bond in his New York civil fraud case.

“Yeah, he’s really angry right now,” Cohen said in a Monday night interview on CNN’s “The Source” with anchor Kaitlan Collins. “That’s what happens, when Donald gets frustrated, he gets angry, when there’s a situation that is completely out of his control.”

Trump’s lawyers indicated in a Monday court filing that the former president cannot secure the $464 million bond due in the case. His attorneys said they have spent “countless hours negotiating with one of the largest insurance companies in the world” and approached 30 companies to back the bond.

1/2 a Billion is some serious cash, and while Trumps real estate portfolio is far larger, I suspect most if it is fairly leveraged already.

If his portfolio is say I dunno 10 Billion, and its leveraged to 80%, on paper that gives Trump a 2 Billion net worth, but that also means very tough to get money on that remaining 20%, because they will be in lower positions etc, and the LTV is already higher than most are going to like to finance on.

I don’t know Trumps finances, nor all the ins and outs of commercial real estate financing and law, so I am painting with some very very broad strokes here, but that would be my guess, is that he just doesn’t have enough free equity to get this amount of loan.

Trumps a fighters, so I wouldn’t count him out, but Most people don’t sit on 1/2 a billion in cash, they want that cash working for them to make more money, that’s kind of how the whole system works.

May be that it has to play out in the state courts before the Fed will take the case... I don’t know...

The timeline makes it impossible to raise the cash in a fiscally responsible manner. As I wrote in another thread, Trump doesn't have $500M in liquid assets. Most Billionaires don't. His money is in his business and property holdings. Sure, buyers would line up to buy Trump Tower, Mar A Lago, Trump Doral, Trump Chicago, Trump Las Vegas, Trump Doonbury, Trump Waikiki, or any of his hotels, golf courses or other businesses at 30%-50% off. That is the whole point of this filing :

“Obtaining such cash through a ‘fire sale’ of real estate holdings would inevitably result in massive, irrecoverable losses — textbook irreparable injury,” defense lawyers Alina Habba and Clifford Robert wrote.

Marketing and selling assets in the 9-figure price range can take years. Trump has more litigation in front of him and is threatened with imprisonment. Who is going to lend him $500,000,000? This is all by design. The fine is ludicrous.

Okay, Donald Trump is the only human who gets angry on occasion. We should have known, but we all refused to see it. Yes sir.

funny how no bank will bond trump...

Yeah, they are afraid of the government coming after them. We need some deep pocket types to step up and help, but they will be subject to the same treatment

Michael Cohen has zero access to Trump. He knows nothing.

“the former president cannot secure the $464 million bond due in the case”

By definition, that then is an “unreasonable” amount, and unconstitutional.

Jonathan Turley said this morning that the civil case against Trump is so egregious that the Supreme Court could step in. He even speculated that Banks in NYC could be afraid to grant the bond because the government might go after them.

I am not arguing that its ludicrous... Which is why it seems like a federal filing for violation of 8th ammendment should be automatic...

I just don’t know why it hasn’t been done, independent of this case.. The bond is needed for an appeal of this verdict of this case, it isn’t needed to launch a case claiming 8th ammendment violations with the fed.

Unless a case must run its course in the state courts before a federal court will hear it, which may be how it all works, I don’t understand how his lawyers haven’t already filed a federal case claiming 8th amendment violations

Does the sum total of all the bonds that people were NEVER charged add up to as much as they are demanding from Trump???

It is a ridiculous sum and it was made that way so they can seize his assets.

Doesn’t NY let murderers go free with NO bond at all?

Salient point....Excellent post...speaks volumes.

Should be forwarded to Trump and his lawyers to be included in his appeal.

Thank you for restating that. The article had me confused that they were on speaking terms or friends again and that Cohen had somehow broken a confidence by telling this.

The leftist newspapers always drag this idiot out to spew his nonsense. They haven’t got anything other than this clown & lawfare that is crumbling, and Cohen is desperate attacking Trump to keep him from office. He’s afraid, and it shows, and rightly so. Too stupid to just STFU.

They stop at nothing to spew their lies. Michael Cohen likely knows nothing but they print his guesses as fact.
