Caitlin Clark Exposes Media Racism
American Thinker ^ | February 26, 2024 | Mark Hewitt

There is a little craziness happening in Iowa and with University of Iowa basketball star, Caitlin Clark. She just set the NCAA all-time women’s scoring record and can make even more history this season by passing Hall of Famer Pete Maravich of LSU for the all-time NCAA scoring record set in 1970. With two games remaining in the season, Miss Clark averaging ~30 points a game and just needs 51 points to break Pistol Pete’s record that he set during his three seasons in Baton Rouge.

But the leftist media’s treatment of Caitlin Clark shows just how corrupt the compromised media really is.

The mainstream media avoids reporting that the Hawkeyes guard overtook the previous NCAA all-time women’s scoring record holder, Kelsey Plum, in 13 fewer career games, while taking fewer shots. Or that Caitlin Clark’s deep three-point shot, showmanship and competitive intensity have sold out “never-before-sold-out” college arenas, where seats go for hundreds of dollars, and have broken TV viewership records. For a women’s college basketball game.

The mainstream media purposely avoids the point that Caitlin Clark is doing something no one in the history of women's basketball has ever done. She is selling out arenas everywhere she goes and is responsible for the biggest television ratings in women's basketball history. Isn’t that newsworthy? Of course, it is.

So, what is the problem?

She’s reportedly dating the eldest son of Iowa men’s basketball coach, who was a great college passer himself, so I don’t think they’ll get that turn.

Pete was amazing and scored a boatload of points in very few games. Freshman couldn’t play varsity then, but he scored another boatload on LSU frosh team. And in spite of no extra point for longer shots, reportedly would have averaged over 50 had 3 point shot been around then. But the comparisons don’t all favor Pete. SEC wasn’t integrated then, so his college records weren’t against the best available competition. Not that he couldn’t score against best competition; he showed he could in NBA. Pete took an incredible number of shots. Clark’s shooting percentage is better and although Pete had plenty of assists, Clark has more. Both games are different, the comparisons are imperfect, but both were and are great and great fun to watch.

Reportedly she’s Catholic and has a boyfriend.

Not the narrative they’re looking for.

Caitlin’s stat line yesterday: She finished with 24 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists. Not bad, those are career highs for most players, and she pretty much does it every time she takes the court. An incredible talent.

Technical point: Maravich didn’t have 3 point shots. Supposedly, Coach Dale Brown of LSU went back and charted all of Pete’s baskets, free throws, etc...and calculated that Pete’s average would have been 57 points a game. Plus, he only played 3 years in college. Freshman weren’t eligible till sophomore year. Never was in playoff. (32 teams then). As far as raw numbers Caitlin Clark is phenomenal..but comparisons need to be more comprehensive.
Typical media twisting of information to create a catchy headline. Disgusting disservice to the public.

I was somewhat disappointed to learn that Martina Navratilova is lesbian. She never made it a cause AFAIK, so it was never an issue for me.

Maria Sharipova may not have been as much a star in tennis but is a beautiful, feminine woman. Call me shallow, but it was hard to take my eyes off Katarina Witt when she skated.

Lipscomb University player John Pierce scored in double digits in every game that he played, Pierce’s 4,230 career point total still stands as the national mark for a college career. Included in the national record are Lipscomb career records for free throws made (881) and field goals made (1,627). His 54-point performance on Nov. 14, 1992 still stands as the school single game scoring mark.

Maravich played for the LSU Tigers and appeared in 83 college basketball games. He played for the program from the 1967-68 season to 1969-70. He played 26 games in his first two seasons while playing 31 games in his senior year.

Alcindor played varsity 3 years and during his last two seasons the dumk was prohibited. Also it could be argued his teammates some being all-american in HS made the team more balanced than Iowa Womens with Clarke and LSU mens with Maricich.

Alcindor had “only” 2335 points in 88 games in three years.

where she has missed out is some of her games are on Peacock and limits her audience. Not exactly a racial issue.

Women’s basketball doesn’t get as much television exposure as the men’s, but she makes around a million dollars a year in endorsement money as a college player, in NIL money. Not many college athletes earn more than that.

She’s an exceptional player, qnd I haven’t seen any coverage of her that would be considered racist.

At IA’s home game last night the cameras showed a small #22 decal at the spot on the floor where she hit her longest(?) shot.

It’s at about a 45° angle from the rim and only about 3 or 4 ft from midcourt .. nothin’ but net.

I don’t care much about all the records hoopla, but the kid is a joy to watch AND the team seems to play better/harder with her out there.

Just hope she keeps a level head in spite of all the rah rah and ends up with a nice, normal life after school’s done and ball’s over.
Wish that for all of ‘em, actually . . .

She’s white AND she’s better looking than most WNBA players. They really hate her for that.

Love whats happening with Clark and Iowa women’s Basketball, but she has not broken the all-time record, just the major schools record division I. Yes she will pass Pistol Pete but not the top two record holders.

Hutcheson and Pierce set their scoring records while Lipscomb College was a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes (NAIA).

Hutcheson was the heart of the Bisons offense during his tenure on the team from 1986-1990. He led his Bison basketball team to a career record of 139–16. Scoring double figures every game of his four-year collegiate career, Hutcheson also holds the Lipscomb single season records for points scored (1,277), field goals attempted (826), field goals made (518) and free throws attempted (339).

He currently holds the Lipscomb University career records for free throws attempted (1,176), field goals attempted (2,621), most games played (155), double-figure games (155), 2nd highest point total (4,106) and rebound total (1,112).

Hutcheson broke the existing all-time scoring mark of 4,045 points set by Travis Grant of Kentucky State in the NAIA national tournament in a third round game against Pfeiffer (NC) on March 16, 1990.

A Lipscomb Academy graduate, Hutcheson was inducted into the Lipscomb University Athletic Hall of Fame and the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1997, had his jersey number 44 retired by the school – the first in Lipscomb history.

Pierce, a teammate of Hutcheson’s, watched him do interview after interview during his red shirt season as a freshman in 1989-90. In 1990, Pierce received the nod as the player who would eventually replace the legendary Philip Hutcheson.

Pierce wasted little time at chasing his predecessor, as he netted 22 points in 21 minutes and grabbed nine rebounds in his first game in a Bison uniform. . In Pierce’s time at Lipscomb (1990-1994), the Bisons compiled an overall record of 129-19, qualifying for the NAIA national tournament all four years.

On Feb. 24, 1994, the clock read 4:54 in the second half against Cumberland University. After being held to only eight points in the first half, Pierce exploded in the second half to become Lipscomb and College Basketball’s all-time scorer. After the game many of the old-timers who had seen nearly every game in Lipscomb’s McQuiddy Gym could be heard saying that never before had McQuiddy Gym erupted like the moment when Pierce laid the soft bankshot off the glass to surpass Hutcheson. Today, Hutcheson’s 4,106-career points stands as the second-highest scoring total in all of college basketball.

Scoring in double digits in every game that he played, Pierce’s 4,230 career point total still stands as the national mark for a college career.
