Technical point: Maravich didn’t have 3 point shots. Supposedly, Coach Dale Brown of LSU went back and charted all of Pete’s baskets, free throws, etc...and calculated that Pete’s average would have been 57 points a game. Plus, he only played 3 years in college. Freshman weren’t eligible till sophomore year. Never was in playoff. (32 teams then). As far as raw numbers Caitlin Clark is phenomenal..but comparisons need to be more comprehensive.
Typical media twisting of information to create a catchy headline. Disgusting disservice to the public.
Maravich played for the LSU Tigers and appeared in 83 college basketball games. He played for the program from the 1967-68 season to 1969-70. He played 26 games in his first two seasons while playing 31 games in his senior year.
Alcindor played varsity 3 years and during his last two seasons the dumk was prohibited. Also it could be argued his teammates some being all-american in HS made the team more balanced than Iowa Womens with Clarke and LSU mens with Maricich.
Alcindor had “only” 2335 points in 88 games in three years.
