Trump wins SC primary moments after polls close, deals Haley crushing blow in her own state: ‘Bigger win than we expected’

COLUMBIA, South Carolina — Donald Trump defeated GOP rival Nikki Haley in the South Carolina primary Saturday night, securing yet another win for the former president.

The race was called almost immediately after the polls closed at 7 p.m., with Trump securing all 29 winner-take-all state delegates. With some 65 percent of the vote in, Trump was up by roughly 20 points.

“This was a little sooner than we anticipated. And even a bigger win than we anticipated,” Trump said to applause on stage at the state fairgrounds in Columbia moments after the victory.

“I have never seen the Republican Party as United as it is right now,” he said.

The former president notably did not mention Haley at all in his remarks.

Trump was joined on stage by several South Carolina Republican leaders, including Sen. Tim Scott, who, despite being appointed to Congress by Haley in 2013, endorsed Trump after he dropped out of the primary race.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, who has endorsed Trump but has butted heads with him in the past, was heavily booed by the crowd when he was introduced.

Haley — who was a two-term governor in the Palmetto State — was banking on doing better in her home state than she did in Iowa and New Hampshire.

In her concession speech Saturday night, Haley congratulated Trump on the victory but said he is not the Republican candidate best suited to beat President Biden in November.

She also announced she is not going anywhere just yet.

25% win (gotta factor in the dems and some independents who all voted for the RINO).

In a true party-only primary she got even more destroyed...

It does NOT and Eugene V. Debbs did that several times!

That’s a stupid bet for her to make. Does she not think that Trump supporters, who are most likely “never Haley,” wouldn’t sooner vote third-party or write in Mickey Mouse, if indeed we show up at the polls at all?

> Where does it say in US Constitution than a person can not run for president from prison? <

Right you are. A person could most certainly run from prison if he is otherwise qualified. Socialist Party candidate Eugene Debs did just that in 1920.

So the Deep State could not stop Trump by imprisoning him. They’d have to do something much more evil and vile.

Well, actually, here she is correct. She may still be “running “ but she’s going nowhere.

If he ran from jail, his delegates would STILL be his!

If he is murdered ( GOD FOREFEND! ), then no, she still would NOT get his delegates! Since this has NEVER happened before, I have no idea what would happen then, but n o, Haley would NOT automatically become the front runner/nominee.

I don’t want Nikki Haley to drop out of the race. Every minute she spends in this race is just another reminder to independents and Democrats about what they always had in common with grassroots Republican voters over the last 20 years: total disdain for the GOP establishment.

Trump won in 2016 on the strength of this coalition of voters.

Why is Trump hiring Lara Trump and Kelly Ann as RNC directors?

Why doesn’t he have Caroline Wren on the job?

I don’t, it’s a huge waste of resources. I think what Nikki really is, has been shown sufficiently.

So, with only 60% of “Republicans” he thinks he can win Nationally?

The Dems are going to wait until he is confirmed the nominee, and then they will switch Joe for someone else.

Good post.

There are advantages to Nikki staying in the race—and folks here do not consider them as much as appropriate.

If you look at polling numbers like a hawk (I raise my hand :-) ) you will notice that President Trump’s primary support has gone up in the past couple of months. Hillary oops Haley screeching reminds Republican why they need him.

As to the general election—those polling numbers are all over the place—but at a minimum there is no evidence her bomb throwing campaign has hurt President Trump in any way.

Bravo, stanne!!

I’d love to see Caroline Wren put in charge.

Heck, I think she’d be a better Senate candidate in Arizona.

Kari Lake’s stock has plummeted with her trailing by 6 points in the latest poll.

She’s getting All her funding from Dims. I imagine they’ve told her that Trump will be taken out somehow and she will be the nominee.

Why would they wait?

Everybody on the planet knows President Trump will win the Republican nomination—by a ridiculous margin.

Imho there is a big debate on the Democratic smoke filled rooms now.

Faction 1: They believe (unlike you) that President Trump will easily defeat Biden in the general election—so they need to get rid of Biden.

Faction 2: They agree with you that Biden can defeat President Trump and they want everybody to shut up and support Biden as their standard bearer in November.

The poll numbers are all over the place. This decision is a lot harder than it looks at first glance.

Stay tuned—nothing would surprise me this year.
