When it was first reported on Saturday that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has been in the hospital since January 1, it was natural to assume that key figures in the Pentagon and the White House, for whatever reason, chose to keep his hospitalization a secret. What possible motive could there be for doing this? Who knows? It didn't make a lot of sense, but the Biden administration has an extensive record of covering up scandals, so it wasn't exactly out of character for the Biden administration to cover something up.
The truth that has been coming out over the course of the day suggests something far, far worse. According to the latest reports, not even the White House knew about Lloyd's hospitalization.
"Senior Biden administration leaders, top Pentagon officials and members of Congress were unaware for days that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had been hospitalized since Monday, U.S. officials said Saturday, as questions swirled about his condition and the secrecy surrounding it," the Associated Press reported. "The Pentagon did not inform the White House National Security Council or top adviser Jake Sullivan of Austin’s hospitalization at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, until Thursday, according to two administration officials."
That's bad. Really bad. And it gets worse.
A source familiar with the situation told CNN that not even Joe Biden knew.
"National security adviser Jake Sullivan ultimately informed Biden late Thursday afternoon, soon after Sullivan himself learned that Austin had been hospitalized, that source said. Austin was admitted to the hospital on New Year’s Day due to complications from an elective surgery," CNN reported.

A guess on a related thread was a colonoscopy, with a nicked bowel & sepsis.
Does anyone know?
Perhaps it’s the simple meaning, as in
why would it occur to anyone to call in sick to a “job” he never has to show up for in the first place?
🤔
Penectomy complications during Ms. Austin’s fundamental change?
Lies and deceit have become the hallmark of this administration. Even when they get caught and try to offer up an explanation, you can’t help but wonder if something much more sinister is going on and is the explanation more lies covering up something else? When credibility is destroyed, nothing you can imagine is over the top or out of the question.
Who goes for elective surgery on New Year’s Day? Who performs elective surgeries on holidays?
This is weird.
Chief of Staff (COS): “Mr President, Mr President! Russia has just launched missiles towards the United States!”
Biden: “Where is my Secretary of Defense?”
COS: “We don’t know, sir. We’ve been calling him but he doesn’t answer and won’t return our calls.”
The president and the SECDEF are the 2 parts of the NCA (National Command Authority), having 1 out of touch (of course Brandon is always out of touch) means parts of the defense network are inoperable.
Had to think about that for a minute. But.... Yeah, you’re right.
Elective surgery? Are we going to have to start calling him.... er
her Angela?
What possible motive could there be for doing this?
He didn’t renew his Mao card yet.
The party is stern on that issue.
But colonoscopy is not a surgery.
I would put blood clots on the list..
Isn’t this guy the Defense Secretary? And no one knew where he was and that he was missing for several days?
In our little town a school bus driver was fired because a child fell asleep in a bus seat and was unaccounted for about 15 minutes.
My guess is Drug Overdose.
He went in the hospital on January 1st, for complications on an elective procedure done prior to January 1st.
Docs couldn’t get colonoscope out...got stuck in his brain.
I read elsewhere that Deputy DefSec Kathleen Hicks, who presumably took on Austin’s authority, did so while on vacation in Puerto Rico...MIC madness!
Maybe they told him and he forgot. He's forgotten Austin's name on a couple of occasions.
“So basically each department of the federal government is being run as an independent fiefdom with no overarching executive authority to make them work together”
Yep, a conglomerate of smaller dictatorships with no self accountability or responsibility.
