GOP presidential candidate Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday directed $1 million to bolster security at a historically Black college near the site of what authorities deemed a racially motivated shooting that killed three Black people at a Dollar General in Jacksonville over the weekend. The governor also pledged $100,000 to help the families of those shooting victims.
The announcement comes a day after DeSantis was met with boos at a Jacksonville vigil for the victims Sunday.
"Also, per the request at yesterday's vigil, we're able to do $100,000 to the charity that is supporting the victims families," DeSantis added. "And those funds are all coming from Volunteer Florida. So we're going to continue to work with those folks in the days and weeks ahead."

“According to police, by 11:39 a.m., Palmeter had left his parents’ home in Clay County, Florida. At 12:48 p.m. he arrived at Edward Waters University and released a TikTok video of him putting on a tactical vest. At 12:55 p.m. campus security arrived at his location and asked for identification. Palmeter failed to identify himself and left the parking lot at 12:57 p.m., being shadowed by a campus security officer leaving at 12:58 p.m. Before 1:08 p.m., the campus officer flagged down a police officer who then started processing a BOLO alert.
“At 1:08 p.m., an eleven-round count ShotSpotter 911 alert went off, caused by Palmeter shooting 11 rounds into the front windshield of a car outside the Dollar General store, killing the first victim. He then entered the store and killed another victim. Security footage shows he was wearing a tactical vest, a face covering, blue rubber gloves, and ear protection during the shooting. Multiple people fled through the store’s rear exit, with Palmeter exiting the same door shortly after. At 1:09 p.m., a one-round ShotSpotter alert went off, followed by Palmeter reentering the store through the rear door and attempting to shoot a security camera but missing. At that time, the first 911 voice call was received. At 1:10 p.m. two more customers entered the store through the front door. At 1:13 p.m., Palmeter killed one of the people that entered the store, then chased the other person around the store, shooting at her, but missing. The victim being chased was able to exit through the rear door, with Palmeter following after her, shooting out the same door”
“Jacksonville police showed images of Palmeter’s AR-15 style weapon bearing a swastika and racial slurs drawn in white sharpie, and a Glock pistol without markings. He acquired the pistol in April 2023 and the rifle in June 2023. Both weapons were obtained legally through FFL-transfer, which require background checks, and the police said Palmeter was legally allowed to possess them.”
“Palmeter was a former student at both Oakleaf High School and Flagler College. In 2016, he was the subject of a domestic police call between him and his brother. In 2017, he was the subject of a Baker Act call, used to place persons under involuntary detainment for mental health examination for up to 72 hours.”
“On August 27, DeSantis visited Jacksonville to attend a vigil for the victims. When he attempted to address the crowd, he was heckled, forcing him to step away from the microphone. It prompted Jacksonville councilwoman Ju’Coby Pittman to step in and ask the mourners to settle down”

Wait a minute! Does this mean every family in Florida who has a loved one killed in a crime receives $100,000? What about those in Georgia? This is not fair! Not fair at all.
What if a person is just shot but doesn’t die? Do they get $50,000? Is there a sliding scale based upon the level of injury?
Pandering to the cries of “white supremacy” is a exercise in “give them an inch and they will take over a country”. Soon thugs will be shooting their relative in order to receive a pay-out.
Did you ever consider that maybe he wasn’t doing this for votes?
That’s just the knee jerk reaction of some. I’m glad if leaders pander to many-generation citizens for a change, instead of illegal aliens. My guess is the university received threats, and in the context they should be taken seriously.
Wish politicians would spend their own money.

They need sooo much more security because they actually turned the guy away from their library so he stupidly went to a dollar general.
