Vivek Ramaswamy takes center stage, plus other key moments from first Republican debate

At the center of the stage, and the center of the debate's hottest exchanges, was a 38-year-old man who no one expected to be there even a few months ago – a novice candidate and technology entrepreneur named Vivek Ramaswamy.

Though he’s well behind Trump, Ramaswamy has crept up in recent polls, leading to his position next to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis at center stage. And he quickly showed why when he showcased his ready-for-video, on-message approach, talking about how his poor parents moved to the U.S. and he had the ability to found billion-dollar companies. Mp> Then Ramaswamy tried to show he wasn’t a regular politician and started to throw elbows. At one point he declared “I’m the only person on the stage who isn’t bought and paid for.” He slammed his rivals as “super PAC puppets” who were using “readymade, pre-prepared slogans” to attack him.

He seemed to be betting that primary voters preferred something memorable said to something done. His rivals were having none of it.

Agree. We do not need an amateur in the White House. Yes, he’s right about the Ukraine. But even a broken clock is right 2x a day.

he has clearly surpassed RD..

and I am seeing RD supporters trying to stay in denial that it is not so... yet it is.

the most outstanding moments of othe debate were where Vamaswamy supported, mimicked trump or lauded his actions...

the only one who says he intends to pardon trump... which he would...but he will not be the candidate... Trump will continue to dominate the field. Tonight was a death knell of the GOPe Bushie broom closet of the MAGA party...

Yes,same with me. I had a scholarship for two years and it was a significant reason I made it through school Vivek won a scholarship that was funded by the Soros foundation but they did not attach strings and Vivek is in the clear on this one.

As far as being a citizen, he was born in Ohio and his parents were legal immigrants, (had a right to be here). That makes him natural enough for me.

Well, I might rate him a bit higher in performance, however I did have a nice chuckle at your observation and characterization. Tks

2. Christie

3. Haley

4. Pence

5. Scott

6. Burgum

7. Hutchison

8. Trump

9. Ramaswamy

I attended a watch party this evening sponsored by the Pat Nixon Republican Women’s Federation in Yorba Linda, Calif. They took a straw poll at the end as to who won. This was a real straw poll in which drinking straws were placed in jars labeled with the candidates’ names. Ramaswamy won going away, De Santis came in at #2, Haley at #3, and none of the others got a single vote. The vote was limited to those who debated, so Trump was excluded.

I liked DeSantis’s stand on border. Vivek benefits most from debate since he is unknown quantity. The others came across as what they are, career politicians. Christy the anti-Trumper was really rude. So was Pence, interrupting constantly.

Vivek shows just how WEAK the GOP field is without Trump there, and in particular, just how PATHETIC DeSantis really is.

There are more MAGAs at any beer hall in East Texas than there are elected Republicans.

“Enough with the war rhetoric against a country that never attacked us”

...plus never even threatened us, at least until we shoved NATO in their faces.

“I maintain though that I’m looking for new leadership. Trump could have pardoned Assange and Snowden but didn’t, plus COVID lockdowns, plus a pattern of bad hires.”

Not that I’m paid to shill for Trump (and no, I’m not), but my understanding of the above is the following:

1. Assange would have gotten Trump removed from office (during the second impeachment), meaning unable to run in 2024. I read that once, don’t remember where = be interesting to find out more about that. Jan 6th was a top-rate operation by the feds.

2. Lockdowns - I don’t believe Trump ordered any, although people under him, who most thought were honest, did push lockdowns.

3. Bad Hires - Trump barely had 50 votes in the US Senate. RINOs combined with Dems had veto power over every pick of Trump. And the Turtle would not even put the Senate into recess, so Trump could not even do recess appointments. Maybe they couldn’t keep Trump out, but they could keep out everyone around Trump.

Yeah, speaking of soft, his pledge to fire Meritless Garland and Christopher Wray Wray on day one displayed that perfectly. Every and I mean every Democrat fires the previous administrations appointees as part of a custom. If Tim Scott wanted to be tough make a case he was focusing a plan to be PROSECUTING these numb nuts on day one.

Hate to say this but Chris Cristie has so much baggage he looks like he’s hiding 6 of Sam Brinson’s stolen luggage with women’s clothes under his suit jacket.

Yes, he’s a native, but he’s not a natural born citizen. Which is a constitutional requirement to become president,

I think Golden Eagle is a jilted former lover of Vivek. Do an in forum search. His/her rants sound like a vindictive teen girl.
