Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is expected to announce his bid for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination in a matter of days, deflected a reporter’s question Monday when asked about a series of polls showing him lagging former President Donald Trump.
“Governor, polls show you falling behind Trump. Any thoughts on that?” an English-speaking reporter asked DeSantis during a press conference in Tokyo.
“I’m not a candidate, so we’ll see if and when that changes,” the 44-year-old said. Footage of the exchange aired by CNN appeared to be edited to show the governor struggling for a response to the question.
DeSantis reportedly has said he intends to launch a White House run later this year, with an announcement expected sometime after the Florida legislative session wraps up May 5.

This would have been a good opportunity, for him to say he’s not a candidate , and he is not going to become a candidate.
That’s assuming he has no plans to become a candidate. This would have been a good opportunity to stop everyone from speculating about it.

He’s not a candidate ‘yet’, but, he can’t be happy with the polls that have him trailing, and for certain, he’d be very happy if the polls showed him leading of within striking distance of Trump.
Polls are always wrong or inaccurate when you’re trailing, even if you’re not running yet.
DeSantis is trolling Trump. And of course Trump is falling for it.

He’s also in every damn poll regarding the Republican nomination. Easy way to put that to bed is to flat-out say he is NOT RUNNING (and just between you and me, I expect that next month).

If Trump is the nominee in 2024 and the Democrats steal the election again, he’ll run again in 2028. So DeSantis would have to wait until 2032. By then he will be 6 years out of office and largely forgotten.
