Michigan Democrat Rep. Elissa Slotkin on Monday announced her 2024 Senate for the seat of retiring fellow Democrat Sen. Debbie Stabenow.

The race for the open seat will likely intensify Michigan's status as a battleground state, with Democrat Joe Biden having won it in 2020 and Republican Donald Trump having won it 2016.

Slotkin, a former Obama administration official who has served in Congress since 2019, pledged on her campaign website that she will continue her work "defending and expanding Michigan’s middle class, making critical items in America, keeping our kids safe from the things that are truly harming them, and protecting our rights and democracy."

Stabenow said last month that she would not be seeking reelection in 2024 after serving four terms in Congress.

Before Slotkin's announcement, Republican Nikki Snyder, a member of the Michigan Board of Education, was the only declared Senate candidate.

What’s up with the men in Michigan. Too chickensh*t to vote for men anymore? The testosterone is drying up in this country. In fact, the Millennial and Zeros generations have no testosterone at all.

Yep. John James said no thanks to running for the senate. He got his cushy seat in the house where he can become a multimillionaire without having to work until he dies or retires.

There’s the problem with politics. Getting elected is the same thing as hitting the lottery.

Too chickensh!t to vote for a black man, no less...

John James ran twice for U.S. Senate, Once against Stabenow, and once against Peters.

He's already announced that he isn't going to run for Debbie's open seat. I think this is a smart move on his part. He was just elected to the House, so he should spend a few cycles there to build a reputation and war chest.

Hopefully he can get in. Time for the males in Michigan to man up.

It's a lock.

The Michigan Democrats and their Assistant Democrat pals across the aisle stole two straight Senate "elections" from John James.

Ridiculous. It’s a blue state and he already lost twice. He has his hands full with his not cushy seat. He barely won it and 2024 will not be easy for him.

Blue state? They just had a republican governor and trump won it. I’d say purple.

Unless Michigan can clean up its elections, it doesn’t matter who runs against Slotkin or even how many actually vote for her.

Biden +3 and Whitmer +11. No Republican Senator since Spencer Abraham was defeated in 2000.
I’d say light blue at least.
