President Joe Biden tried to send a signal to House Republicans during a White House meeting on Tuesday, warning them he could veto any bill he wanted to.

Biden revealed details of the meeting with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and other Congressional leaders during a fundraiser in Boston on Friday. McCarthy may lead the new Congress as speaker after Republicans won the majority in the House of Representatives in the midterm elections.

“They were telling me what they could do, what they were going to do. And I said, ‘Yeah,'” Biden recalled, demonstrating that he responded to McCarthy by lifting up his pen and showing it to the room.

BFD. If pResident Biden wants to veto, then so be it. Republicans need to send real appropriations bills that includes massive cuts to government and the absence of funding to specific agencies to the White House. Let Biden Veto and shutter government. It would be the best use of his powers because at this point I don’t want any of this government funded until it is cleaned up.

McCarthy does have the desire or will to do that. That is reason number one for McCarthy to never be part of leadership.

Here’s a concept: How about returning to “regular order” - bring bills up, allow for amendments, stop conflating disparate goals into one bill making every vote a Hobson’s Choice.

Any budget will have to pass the democrat-controlled Senate. Any shutdown of the government will be blamed on the Republicans. First things to be closed will be the National Parks, Monuments, etc., Social Security, SNAP checks/payments, tax refunds will be suspended, etc. etc. Weekends in Delaware will continue however.

He needs basically all the (R) votes for “his” bills but they CAN scrounge an extra 68 in the House for a veto if needed.

The senate is up for grabs since the (D)’s hold it. He MAY own the senate, and a pen, but We own the House! ... we hope.
