Twitter owner Elon Musk faced a barrage of criticism on Monday after posting a satirical tweet with an archival photo of a Nazi soldier.
The tweet said, “How times have changed” and included a photo of a soldier carrying a container of three carrier pigeons. The pic was captioned “3 unread messages.”
A follow-up tweet said: “Back when birds were real.” And another from the Twitter CEO, who has 115 million followers, compared the birds to Twitter's bird logo, “But if Twitter is bird, that’s means…”
But a steady stream of users quickly pointed out that the soldier in the black and white photo was a Wehrmacht soldier from Nazi Germany, questioning why Musk used that specific photo in the tweet, and wondering if it was indeed accidental.
Human rights lawyer Arsen Ostrovsky commented: “Hi Elon, not sure if you did so intentionally, but that picture is of a Nazi soldier. Given the relentless hate already directed at Jews on this platform, and this week marking 84 years since the Kristallnacht, may I respectfully ask you to please withdraw this image. ..."
As of Tuesday morning, Musk’s tweet with the original image was still up.

It certainly looks like a Wehrmacht soldier. How did they know he was a Nazi?
Waah! I’m offended by history! Make it go away!
“Given the relentless hate already directed at Jews on this platform...”
Really? Is it relentless? Even after the woke board of directors was instabanning everyone who sneezed funny for the last 5 years?
geez... times have changed.
it’s just a german soldier from the past.
he’s actually half jew, but no one knows. the pigeons are what kept him in the army... he loves his birds. and his pronouns are she/hers.
“Birds aren’t real!”
On the other hand, the famous pictures of Hitler sitting with the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem during the war are said by these same sorts of "liberal" voices as no proof whatsoever of an absolutely proven allegiance between hateful ideologies.
Such games as the current crop of postmodern liberals play are all in service to "the revolution" and silencing voices and discussions and even humor. Schande!
Could it be a late WW1 photo?
Everyone should go out of their way to offend the perpetually offended every single day.
“Twitter owner Elon Musk faced a barrage of criticism on Monday”
IOW, just another normal day for Elon Musk. I’ll bet he never leaves the house without his ankle guards.
Indeed! And now that pedophilia is being normalized, about the worst epithet you can sling at someone is "Nazi." So of course, the libs use it wherever they can.
These folks would have had a terrible time with Artie Johnson on Laugh In. (verry interesting…)
Pigeons would be WW1 not 2. So not NAZI soldiers
When I lived in West Germany, I got to know more than a few German vets of the war. Most had been kids who were drafted.
I’ve mentioned before the Battle of Castle Iter, when Wehrmacht soldiers joined forces with American GI’s to defend a castle which was being used to house French political prisoners, including a former President of France. The Waffen SS was coming to execute the prisoners, and the Wehrmacht soldiers didn’t agree with their plans.
Indeed. Just because insane leftist crazies who rightfully belong in mental institutions are ‘offended’ by something, anything, doesn’t mean everyone else in creation has to submit to their nonsense.
They need to grow the hell up and put on some big boy pants.
There’s another way to deal with those people. It’s called involuntary commitment where a course of electro shock therapy or a lobotomy is appropriate.
Another overreaction on something stupid. The point was the pigeons carrying messages not the war or the Nazi’s. That poor slob probably was just a soldier doing what he was told.
Slightly off topic note: for those of us under the age of 100 we never served in WW2 and our view of WW2 is shaped by war movies. War movies show motor vehicles everywhere doing all the work. For the US Army that’s about right. For the German army they used mostly horses for doing all the hauling of stuff. They lacked a secure source of fuel so they preserved it by not using motor vehicles to do work a horse could. Every infantry division would have upwards of 1000 horses with it for that purpose. I guess carrier pigeons make sense for different reasons but hey, it worked!
or this guy,
He would have gotten away with it.
