The nonpartisan Cook Political Report shifted the Oregon gubernatorial race toward Republicans on Friday, moving it from “lean Democrat” to “toss up.”
Three candidates are vying for the seat of Gov. Kate Brown (D), who is term-limited: former state House Speaker Tina Kotek (D), former state House Minority Leader Christine Drazan (R) and former state Sen. Betsy Johnson (I).
Cook Political Report attributed its ratings change to the fact that Johnson could act as a disruptor in the race given her fundraising advantage and her TV ad spending, leading to tied polling between Kotek and Drazan.
“There’s a clear trend of both Kotek and Drazan pulling in the low 30s, while Johnson has yet to poll higher than the mid-20s, though she has argued that will rise post-Labor Day,” the Cook Political Report notes.

Portland and Eugene are strong lib. Salem is middle ground and the rest of Oregon is conservative.
Quite possible that Kotex and Johnson split the vote and Drazen (R) gets in. Governor Brown is despised in Oregon.
That pretty much confirms the theory, but why is the Spoiler running... she left the D party to run as an I, and at best will play spoiler, so what is her motivation to do so?
Don’t rejoice too quickly. Richard Barris from the People’s pundit who has been right on the money is the bearer of some disappointing news. He says the big lead we had during the summer has dwindled to a very close race. Seats that would’ve been easily won by the Republicans have been just tossed away by our minority leaders not helping those candidates. McCarthy stood in the way of having a massive Republican representation and McConnell doesn’t give a shit! They are happy if they carry both chambers by one person each houses. We could’ve had a massive 240+ Republicans but that’s not what they want. They’re too friendly with the rats so they rather have those evil pieces of shit over any MAGA elected representative. As you have seen the old hag cow from Alaska has already said that she is willing to help Biden pass ANY legislation his evil heart desires. I am so saddened that we squandered away, no not us, our POS RINOS bastards squandered away our only hope for survival for our country because of their hatred for our base of MAGA candidates. They have become anti-American power-hungry bastards! I am so angry! If the rats keep both chambers God help us we’re done!
Kate Brown is Jerry Brown’s sister, this explains a lot about the Californication of Oregon.
A friend who lives in Bend had a “professional tenant” who took every advantage of the Covid rules that allowed people to forgo paying their rent. After many, many months of wrangling with the legal system and thousands of $$$ to get them evicted, Kate put a moratorium on evictions one week before my friend was finally going to be able to reclaim her property. Many, many months later, when she was finally able to get them out, they left the house trashed. It cost her tens of thousands of $$$ to fix it up. It was a complete nightmare from start to finish.
The current climate is not kind to landlords.
Note: she was renting out her own home in order to live with her mother who is declining due to dementia.
Kate Brown Governor of Oregon is not Jerry Brown’s sister. Kathleen Brown the former State Treasurer of California, who ran for Governor of California in 1994, is Jerry Brown’s sister.
Betsy Johnson is a Democrat, running as an Independent. She is all for more taxes and big government, just like Kotex. Her claim to being independent is that she is pro-gun and protects the timber industry (which has made her rich). She also was on the Planned Parenthood board of directors for a while. Oregon has a lot of voters signed up as independents. And when Oregon voted on gay marriage, 2/3s voted against it.
Okay, so is she playing spoiler, or does she legitimately have a chance of winning?
Dang, I’ll have to let my friend in Bend know that. Though it seems the Kate Brown in Oregon is cut from the same cloth at the rest of the Brown’s.....a loathsome Democrat....
Good question. Kotex has a reputation of not keeping promises, and of berating people. Kotex has 100% union support. I know one rich, very liberal Democrat who are supporting Johnson. (I don't talk to many.)
A lot of those “independents” are conservatives.
Tiernan should not be running....hopefully he will throw his support behind Christine soon.

David Knight said that she was Jerry Brown’s sisten back in 2018. I looked it up on Wikipedia and I realized he had mistaken Kate Brown for Kathleen Brown. I can see how people could mistake this though.
Here’s how it could very well happen.
Oregon is an all mail-in elections state.
Glenn Youngkin, Kari Lake, and Joe Kent proved the formula for beating this scam is to have Republican voters walk their votes in NOT mail them in and flood the rodent controlled polling places with Republican eyes and ears.
Mailed in ballots are easy to cheat. The rodents know how many are there by where the ballot comes from.
To beat that Republicans need only flood the as Youngkin did and have Republicans hand in their votes so the Democrat/communist cannot figure out how many votes to manufacture.
Attention Surrender Monkeys: Before you start whining “But they’ll cheat and win anyway,” Youngkin, Lake, and Kent won with this formula already.
Agree. Johnson was my “representative”...like spitting in the wind...”representative” NOT. But, in her 20 years in the legislature, she was a thorn in the side of the Dems. I know of several people that will be voting for her. Mad at the Dems for disastrous one party rule and the state of the state. But, can’t bring themselves to vote for a Republican.
Oregon has more registered as Independent or Non-Affiliated than Dems or Republicans. Hope is Johnson will draw more Dems and give it to Drazan. I have signs out and have given money. There is always hope.
