WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Tuesday recommended travelers continue to wear masks in airplanes, trains and airports despite a judge's April 18 order declaring the 14-month-old transportation mask mandate unlawful.
The CDC said it based its recommendation on current COVID-19 conditions and spread as well as the protective value of masks.
The Justice Department last month filed notice it will appeal the ruling and it has until May 31 to do so. But the government has made no effort to seek immediate court action to reinstate the mandate.
The mask mandate had been due to expire on Tuesday just before midnight unless the CDC sought an extension of a Transportation Security Administration directive.
A CDC spokeswoman said, "As a result of a court order, the mask order is no longer in effect and is not being enforced."

Was there an order saying you are not allowed to wear masks?
No airlines, but the state of NY will not drop masks on the subway or busses until the CDC recommends that they do not. I am part of the 15-20% of riders engaging in civil disobedience on this point.
How many of them are jabbed up and so have limited their immune systems? Could be almost any sniffle for those not in the hospital.
I will drive or walk, but no way am I putting up with that airport process. I will take off my shoes on Holy Ground, the beach, or in my bathroom, but at the airport, no thanks.
So glad we don’t have to travel to NYC, anymore.

I watched such a fool last week put one on (after sitting a good hour at a table) to walk out...and by the time she reached the lobby she was all but passed out from lack of O2.

2 out of 6 got jab.
1 in hospital not jabbed.
2 out of 6 are in 20’s, not jabbed, and had omcron maybe 3 months ago. And they are sick again with covid.
I have no agenda here just to point out that the latest seems to be traveling fast and previous jab or infection didn’t stop re-infection. I am not jabbed and won’t get jabbed. Just saying I plan on at least being careful where I can.
I don’t mean to pick on you, but we really don’t know that every sniffle is Covid. Colds and a touch of the flu didn’t just disappear and the PCR test is bogus.
We just play into the scam if we agree that everything is Omicron.
Not surprising coming from an agency that came out with a How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse contingency pamphlet/brochure.......
But no masks at the White House Correspondents Dinner was okay.
I’m as discerning as you get concerning all this stuff and I wouldn’t have made my post if I wasn’t confident in what I was saying and if I didn’t have concern for other people.
May is not the arrival of cold and flu season and the people that I know that got sick describe something different than cold and flu. And they’re all generally very healthy people. Two very very healthy brothers in their 20s had covid a couple of months ago and now they have the latest variant. I’ve known them their whole lives and I’m confident in what I say as opposed to thinking all they just are having a couple of colds or flu. Again I post it out of concern especially because there didn’t seem to be immunity given with from their previous covid. I could probably write your expected response and you’re free to think whatever you want but again I’m just posting out of concern.
I don’t want to squabble with you.
